THE SHOP
Arthur + Lucca is Chicago's premier tailor shop — a studio where expert craftsmanship meets genuine hospitality. We specialize in custom clothing and precision alterations for everything from denim and suiting to formalwear and bridal gowns. With over 150,000 hours of alterations completed and hundreds of custom garments crafted for both men and women, we've built a reputation as the city's authority on fit.
We move fast, we operate with intention, and we take pride in everything we touch — from the first stitch to the final press.
This isn't a dry-cleaning counter. It's an atelier.
THE ROLE
We're looking for an Entry-Level Seamstress / Tailor to join our sewing team — someone with foundational skills, a sharp eye for quality, and a genuine love for the craft. You'll work across a range of garments, from everyday denim and suiting to formal gowns and bridal wear, as part of a close-knit team that takes real pride in what comes off the machine.
This is a training-forward role. As you develop, you'll be specialized in dress hemming and bridal bustle hand sewing — two of the most in-demand and skilled services we offer. If you're early in your career and want to grow inside a shop that takes craft seriously, this is where you want to be.
YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT BY
- Performing alterations across a full range of men's and women's garments — dresses, gowns, shirts, pants, jackets, overcoats, and denim
- Operating industrial sewing machines, sergers, and pressing equipment with care and precision
- Quality checking your own work at every stage — a well-altered piece should look like it was never touched
- Developing specialized expertise in dress hemming and bridal bustle hand sewing through dedicated training
- Communicating openly with fitters and teammates to ensure every alteration is executed exactly as marked
- Contributing to a clean, organized, and focused sewing environment
- Taking on new techniques and projects with curiosity and a willingness to learn
WHO YOU ARE
You love the work itself. You find satisfaction in a perfectly pressed hem, a cleanly finished seam, and a garment that looks exactly the way it should. You're early in your career but serious about your craft — and you're looking for a place that will invest in making you better.
You also:
- Have experience altering some or all of the following: dresses, evening gowns, bridal gowns, shirts, pants, jackets, overcoats, and jeans
- Can operate industrial sewing machines, sergers, and pressing equipment
- Work independently and hold yourself to a high standard without being told to
- Are a team player — open, communicative, and positive. You share knowledge, ask questions, and never make someone feel like a burden for asking
- Are dependable and consistent in your schedule, speed, and quality
- Are not above any task and not intimidated by any technique — you approach new challenges with curiosity, not hesitation
WHY ARTHUR + LUCCA
- You matter here. On a small, high-performing team, your contributions are visible, valued, and rewarded — not lost in an org chart.
- A real career path. This role grows with you. Develop your skills, get specialized in high-demand techniques, and take on more as you earn it — each milestone comes with more responsibility and more pay.
- A brand worth representing. We've spent nearly a decade building something Chicagoans trust. You'll be part of what keeps that reputation strong.
- A culture of initiative. We don't wait to be told what needs to happen — we figure it out and act. If that excites you, you'll fit right in.
- A place that takes craft seriously. The West Loop is our neighborhood — creative, design-forward, and full of people who give a damn about quality. So do we.
