Tax Accountant

Overview

Join our team at AffariTax as a Tax Accountant and play a key role in serving our individual and small business clients! In this role, you will prepare and review tax returns, manage bookkeeping engagements, and ensure our clients stay compliant with tax laws and regulations. Your expertise will help clients make smart financial decisions while we maintain the accuracy and integrity our reputation is built on. This position offers a great opportunity to grow your skills in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Duties

Prepare and review individual (Form 1040) and small business (Schedule C, 1120, 1120-S, 1065) tax returns in accordance with relevant tax laws and regulations
Perform bookkeeping and account reconciliation using QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop
Analyze client financial data to identify tax-saving opportunities and ensure accurate, compliant filings
Prepare and maintain client financial records, statements, and supporting documentation
Meet with clients (in person, by phone, or virtually) to review tax returns, answer questions, and discuss their overall tax situation
Monitor changes in tax law and communicate relevant updates to clients and team members
Respond to IRS and state tax notices, and assist clients with audit inquiries as needed
Communicate directly with clients to gather information, explain tax positions, and provide clear, professional guidance
Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines, particularly during tax season

Skills

Proven experience preparing individual and small business tax returns
Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop for bookkeeping
Strong understanding of individual and small business tax accounting practices
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple client deadlines efficiently, especially during peak season
Strong, comfortable client-facing communication skills — able to explain tax matters clearly to non-experts in meetings and conversations

Preferred (a plus, not required)

CPA or EA license
QuickBooks certification(s)
Experience preparing nonprofit tax filings (Form 990)
Experience preparing trust and estate tax returns (Form 1041)
