Full Job Description

Berkshire Hills Music Academy (BHMA) is seeking a reliable and compassionate Part-Time Weekend Residential Assistant to join our Residential team. BHMA provides a music-centered environment where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build independence, develop meaningful relationships, and participate actively in their community.

The Residential Assistant provides direct support to participants in their daily living routines while helping them strengthen independence, self-care skills, social awareness, and community engagement. This position works as part of the Residential team to ensure participants receive consistent support and that residential settings remain safe, organized, respectful, and welcoming.

This can be a great fit for CNAs, Personal Care Assistants (PCAs), Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), caregivers, paraprofessionals, or others with direct-support experience who are interested in helping adults build greater independence.

This is a regularly scheduled Saturday and Sunday position. Consistent attendance during assigned weekend hours is an important part of providing continuity and reliable support to participants.

What You'll Do

Support participants with daily living routines while encouraging independence and choice.
Teach and model independent living skills, including personal hygiene and grooming, laundry, cleaning, cooking, and room organization.
Provide appropriate assistance with personal care needs while maintaining participant dignity and privacy.
Encourage positive social interactions, communication, self-advocacy, and problem-solving.
Support participants with community activities, transportation, shopping, recreation, and other weekend activities.
Assist participants in following individualized routines, schedules, and goals.
Support household routines and help maintain safe, clean, and organized residential spaces.
Communicate participant progress, incidents, health or safety concerns, and other important information to appropriate Residential staff.
Complete required participant documentation and daily updates.
Follow participant support plans, residential routines, health and safety practices, and emergency procedures.
Maintain MAP certification and administer medications when authorized.
Participate in required trainings and department activities.

What We're Looking For

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in caregiving, personal care, residential services, human services, education, or a related setting preferred.
CNA, PCA, DSP, residential, or other direct-support experience is strongly valued. Prior experience specifically supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is helpful but not required.
Comfortable supporting personal care routines, including hygiene and grooming, while encouraging individuals to do as much as possible independently.
Dependable and able to consistently work the assigned Saturday and Sunday schedule.
Strong communication, judgment, and decision-making skills.
Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain required certification.
Massachusetts Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification, or ability to obtain certification.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to successfully complete required background checks.

Your Experience Can Transfer

If you've worked as a CNA, PCA, DSP, caregiver, residential staff member, paraprofessional, or in another direct-support role, many of the skills you already have can translate well to BHMA. We provide training specific to our participants, programs, and residential approach.

At BHMA, the focus is not simply on doing things for participants. Our staff support, teach, encourage, and create opportunities for participants to build skills and do more for themselves.

Schedule

This position is specifically intended to provide consistent Saturday and Sunday residential coverage. Applicants must be available to work the regularly assigned weekend schedule.

Additional hours may be available based on program needs, and there may be an opportunity to transition to a full-time schedule over time based on employee interest, performance, and staffing needs.
