Full Job Description

Job Summary

The Facilities Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining critical facility utility systems including boilers, chillers, reverse osmosis (RO) systems, wastewater systems, air vessels, and supporting equipment. This role ensures that plant utilities operate safely efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards to support continuous production operations. The Facilities Technician also provides general maintenance support throughout the facility by assisting with equipment repairs, troubleshooting utility-related issues, and supporting preventative maintenance activities across departments. This role plays a critical part in maintaining proper water quality, steam generation, temperature control, air systems, and wastewater management for the facility.

Core Competencies & Responsibilities

1. Safety & Compliance

· Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, environmental regulations, and facility operating procedures.

· Operate boilers, chillers, and other utility systems in compliance with California safety and environmental regulations.

· Follow lockout/tagout procedures when servicing equipment.

· Monitor wastewater discharge and pH levels to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

· Immediately report unsafe conditions, abnormal readings, or equipment malfunctions.

2. Quality & Standards

Maintain proper operation of facility utility systems to support production quality requirements.
Monitor water treatment systems including RO filtration and chemical treatment processes.
Ensure steam, water, compressed air, and cooling systems operate within established parameters.
Maintain accurate operational logs and records for boilers, chillers, wastewater, and related equipment.

3. Productivity & Operational Excellence

· Operate and monitor boilers, chillers, RO systems, air vessels, and facility utility equipment.

· Monitor wastewater systems and maintain appropriate pH levels in accordance with plant and regulatory requirements.

· Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and system adjustments to maintain optimal performance.

· Assist with troubleshooting and repairing facility systems and production support equipment.

· Support maintenance teams with repairs and facility improvement projects throughout the plant.

4. Communication & Teamwork

Communicate equipment conditions, operational concerns, and maintenance needs to the Engineering & Technical Support Manager.
Coordinate with Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Sanitation teams to support plant operations.
Provide timely updates regarding utility performance and system issues.
Maintain a professional, cooperative, and safety-focused work environment.

5. Technical / Job-Specific Skills

Operate and monitor industrial boilers and steam generation systems.
Operate and maintain chillers and cooling systems used in production operations.
Maintain and monitor reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration systems.
Monitor wastewater treatment systems and manage pH control processes.
Monitor and maintain air vessels and compressed air systems.
Assist with mechanical troubleshooting and repairs throughout the facility.
Maintain utility system logs, inspection records, and maintenance documentation.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.
Experience: 4+ years of experience operating industrial boiler systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
Certifications: Valid California Boiler Operator License or applicable stationary engineer certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
Other Requirements: Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to respond quickly to equipment issues.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50lbs.
Continuous exposure to high-speed machinery and conveyor systems.
Exposure to noise, moving machinery, and temperature variations.
Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
