Mountain Lake Lodge | Pembroke, Virginia
Full-Time | Salaried | On-Property Position
Mountain Lake Lodge is seeking an experienced Reservation & Revenue Manager to lead the resort’s reservations, pricing, inventory, distribution, and revenue management strategy.
Please note: This is NOT an accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or financial reporting position. This is a hotel/resort revenue management and reservations leadership position requiring hands-on experience with hotel front office and reservation systems, revenue and yield management, online distribution channels, and Online Travel Agencies (OTAs).
Previous hotel or resort revenue management experience is required to be considered for this position.
About the Positionthoughtful revenue management an important part of our continued growth. The Mountain Lake Promise
“We create unforgettable experiences and memories by taking care of our guests, caring for each other, and preserving this mountain for generations to come.”
If you have genuine hotel or resort revenue management experience, understand reservations and front office systems, know how to manage online distribution channels and OTA extranets, and enjoy turning demand data into actionable pricing and inventory strategies, we encourage you to apply.
Applicants without previous hotel or resort revenue management experience will not be considered for this position.
The Reservation & Revenue Manager serves as the primary revenue management leader for Mountain Lake Lodge, a destination mountain resort with approximately 100 lodging accommodations.
This position carries responsibilities similar to those of a Director of Revenue Management at a larger property while remaining highly involved in the day-to-day reservations and operational needs of the resort.
The successful candidate will understand how hotel rooms are sold—not simply how revenue is reported after the fact.
You must be comfortable working within a hotel Property Management System (PMS), managing rates and inventory, navigating OTA extranets, monitoring booking pace, adjusting pricing, forecasting demand, managing restrictions, reviewing group blocks, and working directly with Front Office and Sales leadership to drive profitable growth.
This position reports to the Assistant Hotel Manager and works closely with the General Manager, Front Office, Sales, Catering & Events, Marketing, and Finance teams.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
· Lead the resort’s overall room revenue and yield management strategy.
· Develop and adjust daily room pricing based on demand, booking pace, occupancy, historical performance, market conditions, events, and seasonal trends.
· Maximize Occupancy, Average Daily Rate (ADR), RevPAR, and total room revenue.
· Monitor daily and weekly reservation pickup, pace, cancellations, booking windows, length of stay, and demand patterns.
· Develop weekly, monthly, seasonal, and annual room revenue forecasts.
· Manage room inventory, room types, rate plans, packages, availability, and restrictions.
· Establish and manage minimum-length-of-stay, closed-to-arrival, and other yield-management restrictions when appropriate.
· Oversee the resort’s reservation function and ensure reservations are accurate and handled professionally.
· Work within the property’s hotel PMS and reservation systems on a daily basis.
· Manage and navigate Online Travel Agency extranets, third-party booking channels, and other online distribution platforms.
· Monitor rates, inventory, restrictions, and availability across online channels.
· Troubleshoot rate and inventory discrepancies between the property system and online distribution channels.
· Monitor channel production and help increase profitable direct reservations.
· Work with Front Office leadership to understand room inventory, rooms out of order, premium room opportunities, occupancy challenges, and operational conditions affecting sellable inventory.
· Partner with Sales and Catering & Events on group room blocks, pricing, cutoff dates, pickup, wash, and displacement considerations.
· Determine appropriate group rates based on anticipated transient demand and overall value of the business.
· Identify need periods and work with Sales and Marketing to create strategies that generate demand.
· Evaluate proposed lodging packages and promotions from a revenue-management perspective.
· Develop strategies for weekends, holidays, festivals, weddings, group periods, seasonal peaks, shoulder seasons, and other special events.
· Participate in and help lead regular revenue strategy meetings.
· Present booking pace, forecast, pricing strategy, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions to resort leadership.
· Maintain accurate rate plans, packages, descriptions, restrictions, and inventory within applicable systems.
· Review performance against budget, forecast, prior year, and established revenue goals.
This Is a Hands-On Hospitality Position
We are specifically seeking someone who understands the relationship between:
Reservations → Front Office → Inventory → Distribution → Pricing → Sales → Guest Demand → Revenue
Candidates should be able to move comfortably between analyzing a revenue report and logging into a PMS or OTA extranet to make the changes necessary to improve performance.
This is not a position where revenue management is limited to spreadsheets, accounting reports, or financial analysis.
Required Experience
To be considered, applicants must have:
· Previous hotel or resort revenue management experience.
· Minimum 4 years of hotel/resort reservations experience.
· Demonstrated knowledge of hotel revenue management and yield-management principles.
· Hands-on experience using a hotel Property Management System (PMS) or comparable front office/reservation system.
· Experience managing or working within OTA extranets and online travel distribution channels.
· Understanding of hotel rate plans, room inventory, availability controls, packages, and restrictions.
· Working knowledge of Occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, booking pace, pickup, forecasting, booking windows, and length-of-stay strategies.
· Strong understanding of transient and group room business.
· Ability to analyze demand and make independent pricing and inventory decisions.
· Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
· Exceptional attention to detail.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently, prioritize competing responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
OPERA Cloud experience is strongly preferred.
Previous experience with an independent hotel, full-service resort, destination resort, or similar hospitality operation is highly preferred.
Who Will Be Successful in This Role?
The successful candidate will be someone who:
· Enjoys the strategy behind selling hotel rooms.
· Understands that the right rate is not always the lowest rate.
· Can identify a soft weekend several weeks out and begin developing a strategy before it becomes a problem.
· Recognizes when demand supports increasing rates rather than simply increasing occupancy.
· Understands the cost and value differences between direct reservations and third-party bookings.
· Can evaluate group business without losing sight of potential transient demand.
· Is comfortable navigating multiple reservation and distribution platforms.
· Pays close attention to rate loading, room inventory, packages, restrictions, and system accuracy.
· Communicates revenue strategy clearly to people who may not work in revenue management every day.
· Takes ownership and does not wait for someone else to identify opportunities.
