Job Summary
Mueller Reports is looking for a dedicated Commercial Property Inspector to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in ensuring commercial real estate assets—including retail spaces, offices, warehouses, and multi-family complexes—are properly evaluated for commercial insurance underwriting and risk assessment purposes, all while enjoying the flexibility of working independently. This is a part-time position, with opportunities for continued growth within the company for inspectors who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, and technical expertise.
What You'll Do
- Inspect & Photograph Commercial Assets: Travel to commercial properties in your general area and conduct in-depth risk and condition assessments. This includes capturing clear photos of key areas like commercial roofing systems (TPO, EPDM, built-up), building envelopes, parking structures, and life-safety amenities, as well as identifying and documenting high-liability hazards impacting the property’s risk profile.
- Measure, Diagram, & Scan: Work within our user-friendly smartphone app to input commercial building footprints, square footage measurements, and create accurate property diagrams and 3D scans.
- Report Findings: Input measurements, photographs, and critical structural findings into our proprietary mobile app to generate highly accurate, technical inspection reports for commercial insurance clients.

Schedule and Availability
Mueller offers both full-time and part-time positions. Part-time positions will vary in required availability depending on location and available work volume.
Requirements:
- Minimum Availability: 12 hours per week, Monday through Saturday - subject to territory requirements
- Working hours: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, or loss of daylight
Compensation
- Pay Type: Hourly (inclusive of travel time and admin/reporting work).

Job Requirements
- Experience: Prior experience performing commercial property inspections, residential home inspections, or insurance loss control is highly preferred. Mueller will cover the cost of a commercial inspection certification course for qualified candidates who demonstrate strong baseline construction or real estate knowledge.
- Age: At least 18 years old.
- Location: Reside in, and be willing to travel within, the following counties: Cook
- Driver’s License: Valid and current.
- Vehicle With Insurance: Reliable, fuel-efficient personal car that is fully insured. It is essential for this position that you maintain a vehicle with a 30+ MPG rating from the EPA to achieve cost efficiency and control environmental impact.
- Dress Code: Adhere to professional business casual attire with a company-issued ID badge (essential for conducting professional site walkthroughs with commercial tenants and managers).
- Weather: Willing to work in various weather conditions when safe including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Language: Reading, writing, and speaking proficient English.
Equipment Needed
- Smartphone: Recent model to run our advanced data-collection app. Operating System requirements: iOS minimum 18.0, Android minimum 13
- Computer: Laptop or desktop to supplement our mobile app and complete technical reporting.
- Internet: High-speed/broadband connection at home.
Preferred Skills & Experience
While we provide training, highly qualified candidates will have previous experience or background knowledge in fields that translate well to commercial building analysis, such as:
- Commercial real estate appraisal or valuation reports
- Commercial property management or facilities maintenance
- Insurance loss control or risk engineering
- Commercial construction, framing, or roofing
- Installation, repair, or maintenance of commercial MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
- Commercial building code enforcement or zoning data collection
- Engineering or architectural field inspections
Experience evaluating roofing systems, building exteriors, life safety features, occupancy classifications, and property hazards is highly desirable
Pay: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour
