Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Diet Technician to support our nutritional services team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in food preparation, safety standards, and dietary management, with a passion for promoting health and well-being through proper nutrition. As a Diet Technician, you will assist in meal planning, food preparation, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations while providing excellent support to our clients and staff.

Duties

Prepare and assemble meals according to prescribed dietary guidelines, ensuring accuracy in portioning and presentation.
Utilize knife skills and slicing techniques to prepare ingredients efficiently and safely for various food production tasks.
Operate food preparation equipment safely and effectively, adhering to safety standards in production environments.
Assist in menu development by contributing ideas based on sensory evaluation and nutritional requirements.
Handle manual tasks such as heavy lifting and food handling with proper technique to maintain safety standards.
Support catering services by preparing food items for events, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, following strict food safety management protocols.
Provide excellent customer service by addressing dietary needs and preferences with professionalism and care.

Qualifications

Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR or DTR)
Education: Complete an associate degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
Exam: Pass the national NDTR exam administered by the CDR. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Proven experience in food preparation, catering, or restaurant environments within the food industry.
Demonstrated proficiency in knife skills, slicing technique, and use of food preparation equipment.
Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and food handling regulations.
Strong understanding of basic math for portioning, measurements, and inventory control.
Experience with culinary techniques such as cooking, food production, and sensory evaluation.
Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting while maintaining safety standards.
Previous experience in dietary or nutritional support roles is highly desirable; culinary or kitchen experience is essential.
Excellent communication skills coupled with customer service aptitude to effectively assist clients and team members.
