Join Cincinnati Children's Information Services as a Senior Database Administrator and help power the technology behind world-class pediatric healthcare. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, optimization, and support of secure, high-performing enterprise database environments while ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance across critical systems. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, you'll solve complex technical challenges, drive continuous improvement, mentor team members, and deliver innovative database solutions that support exceptional patient care and organizational success.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Database
Responsible for the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of moderately complex database environments.
Ensure that database environments are recoverable and secure.
Plan for and monitor the capacity of the database environments.
Monitor database and server performance; provide analysis and solutions to performance issues.
Plan and execute change within the systems by following the policies and procedures as defined by Information Services.
Proactively identify potential issues and conceptualize their solutions while providing direct technical support and problem resolution assistance for all database environments.
Knowledge
Develop knowledge and professional skills through cross-training, literature, and attendance at department meetings and vendor education.
Develop and maintain positive relationships, both internal and external to CCHMC.
Motivate people and encourage teamwork.
Work well with others and foster a positive team environment.
Prepare oral and written presentations.
Conduct and participate in instructional seminars.
Develop expertise in several Cincinnati Children's computer-based systems.
Project Management
Manage the design, development, and implementation of new and enhanced projects.
Identify the appropriate resources needed to complete projects.
Communicate between internal and external parties on project related issues and developments.
Develop and maintain project plans.
Work with cross functional teams.
Consult with end user community to develop requirements for database solutions.
Technical Support
Ensure outstanding end-user support is provided, including ongoing monitoring of Service Level Agreements for incident management and collaboration with other areas to ensure customer-centered incident management and support.
Adhere to and promote continual adoption of change management policies and procedures.
Model outstanding customer service behavior, including timely and effective follow-up with customers.
Always maintain CCHMC'S service standards of being Courteous, Attentive, Respectful, Enthusiastic team members and Safe. (CARES).
Collaboration
Mentor and train other database administrators.
Participate in the interview process.
Develop and maintain positive relationships, both internal and external to CCHMC.
Provide consultation and assistance to customers and Information Services personnel.
Adhere to IS departmental on-call and Service Desk policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of experience supporting enterprise database environments, with strong expertise in MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
Experience with high availability, replication, clustering, and load balancing technologies, including MySQL Router and PGPool.
Working knowledge of Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server administration.
Experience performing database performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, and troubleshooting in complex production environments.
Familiarity with database programming languages such as PL/SQL, T-SQL, and other procedural database languages.
Experience developing and maintaining automation scripts using Bash Shell and/or PowerShell.
Knowledge of Linux and Windows server operating systems and their interaction with database platforms.
Experience troubleshooting issues beyond the database layer, including network connectivity, firewall configurations, operating systems, and infrastructure components.
Experience supporting mission-critical applications in highly available healthcare, research, or other regulated environments.
Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and emerging database platforms.
