Basic Requirement: You must provide supporting documentation in your application to show you meet the basic requirement below:
A. Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. Transcript must include date degree was awarded or conferred.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience - at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
1. Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law (provide transcripts)
OR
2. A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination (provide certification)
OR
3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A (provide transcripts), provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal non-conformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience as described below and meet the basic requirement listed above.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
- Leading or managing an audit team consisting of staff of varying skill levels that conduct audits of large U.S. based and multinational external entities where audit procedures require comprehensive analyses of accounting systems, financial records, internal controls, and business activities that are performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) or Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
- Monitoring and evaluating audit teams' work and managing audit timelines and budgets
- Managing and conducting forensic audits and technical assists in support of civil and criminal negligence and fraud
- Assisting with recruitment strategies and interviewing candidates, providing recommendations to leadership

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess a valid state driver's license at the time of appointment.
Relocation: Upon selection, you may be eligible to receive a Relocation Incentive depending on terms outlined in agency policy and availability of funding.
Training: This position has a training requirement. Selectees are required to attend up to 4 weeks in formalized courses of required basic auditor training at an off-site location, to conclude with written examinations, which must be successfully completed (passing score of 70% or higher) according to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Trade policy. Failure to successfully complete required courses of basic auditor training and the written examination in accordance with the policies of CBP will be grounds for either demotion or reassignment to another position, placement into a lower graded position, or separation from CBP in accordance with appropriate procedures. If you are a current CBP employee moving into the Auditor occupational series, you are also required to attend and successfully complete this training.
Leadership Training: All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment.
