Full Job Description

Senior Accountant – Real Estate Development & Construction

Position Summary
Kingsley + Co. is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with experience in real estate development, construction accounting, and property management. This individual will manage financial operations across multiple entities, development projects, construction activities, and operating assets while ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and strong internal controls.

Primary ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

· Perform month-end and year-end closings.

· Reconcile bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts.

· Maintain the general ledger for multiple LLCs.

· Manage intercompany transactions.

· Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules.

· Apply revenue recognition standards and maintain work-in-progress (WIP) / percentage-of-completion schedules.

· Prepare cash flow reports and forecasts.

Construction Accounting

· Review subcontractor invoices.

· Prepare and manage construction draws.

· Track budgets versus actual costs.

· Monitor job costing.

· Coordinate with project managers on variances.

· Process lien waivers and retainage.

· Maintain schedules of values.

· Capitalize construction-period interest and other qualifying project costs.

· Coordinate lender draw inspections.

Real Estate Development Accounting

· Track predevelopment costs.

· Monitor development budgets.

· Prepare investor, lender, and agency reports.

· Track grants, soft financing, and reimbursements.

· Maintain equity contribution and capital account schedules.

· Coordinate cost segregation studies with tax advisors.

LIHTC & Affordable Housing Compliance

· Prepare investor and syndicator reporting for tax credit partnerships.

· Support 8609 filings and annual cost certifications.

· Coordinate compliance reporting with HUD and state housing finance agencies.

· Track development sources and uses across LIHTC, grants, and soft financing.

Property Accounting

· Review rental income and operating expenses.

· Monitor security deposits.

· Prepare owner distributions.

· Review occupancy and receivable reports.

· Assist with annual budgets.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

· Process vendor invoices.

· Manage W-9s and vendor setup.

· Process weekly check runs.

· Prepare annual 1099 filings.

· Monitor receivables and collections.

Banking & Treasury

· Manage multiple bank accounts.

· Daily cash management.

· Prepare wire transfers.

· Monitor loan covenants and payments.

· Assist with refinancing transactions.

Compliance & Reporting

· Prepare audit schedules.

· Support CPA tax preparation.

· Coordinate annual filings.

· Prepare sales tax filings.

· Maintain insurance certificates.

· Monitor property tax assessments and support appeals.

· Monitor lender reporting.

Budgeting & Analysis

· Prepare annual budgets.

· Analyze project profitability.

· Produce variance reports.

· Forecast cash flow.

· Identify profitability improvements.

Team Leadership & Process

· Review the work of accounts payable and staff accounting personnel.

· Own and continuously improve the monthly close process and internal controls.

· Document accounting policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

· CPA preferred.

· 5+ years accounting experience.

· 3+ years in construction or real estate accounting.

· Knowledge of job costing, construction lending, and GAAP.

· Advanced Excel.

· Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, Yardi, AppFolio or similar.

· LIHTC experience preferred.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage competing deadlines.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Performance Expectations

· Monthly financials completed by the 10th business day.

· Timely bank reconciliations.

· Accurate construction draws.

· On-time vendor payments.

· Zero missed loan payments.

· Accurate project budget tracking.

· Maintain confidentiality.

· Continuously improve internal controls.
