The IT Director is responsible for leading the strategic direction, governance, and execution of all technology initiatives across Crane 1 Services. This executive leadership role oversees enterprise infrastructure, cybersecurity, business applications, cloud technologies, IT operations, vendor management, and digital transformation initiatives that support the company's continued growth throughout North America.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the IT Director functions as a trusted business partner to executive leadership, ensuring technology investments align with organizational objectives while delivering secure, scalable, and highly reliable IT services.
This position is ideal for a hands-on technology executive who enjoys balancing strategic planning with operational execution in a fast-paced, multi-site industrial services environment.
Starting Salary: $160k / yrExecutive Leadership & IT Strategy
- Develop and execute a multi-year enterprise technology strategy that supports the company's growth, operational excellence, and long-term business objectives.
- Serve as the organization's primary technology advisor to executive leadership, providing strategic guidance on infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital transformation, enterprise applications, AI adoption, and emerging technologies.
- Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, helping shape business strategy through technology innovation.
- Establish enterprise IT governance, technology standards, policies, and best practices.
- Develop measurable IT performance metrics and executive dashboards to communicate organizational health, risk, and technology ROI.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, automation, innovation, accountability, and exceptional customer service.
Infrastructure & Enterprise Technology
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all network infrastructure, cloud services, servers, storage, telecommunications, and enterprise technology platforms.
- Ensure maximum system availability, scalability, redundancy, and business continuity across all company locations.
- Oversee Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, SharePoint, Teams, Power Platform, and related Microsoft technologies.
- Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives while developing scalable architecture standards that support future growth.
- Design and oversee enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Own the organization's cybersecurity strategy, governance framework, and overall security posture.
- Lead endpoint protection, identity management, vulnerability management, incident response planning, and security awareness programs.
- Establish and enforce enterprise IT security policies, governance standards, and acceptable use policies.
- Ensure compliance with cyber insurance requirements, customer security obligations, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Coordinate penetration testing, disaster recovery testing, third-party security audits, and risk assessments on a recurring basis.
- Develop executive reporting on cybersecurity risks, mitigation efforts, and compliance status.
Enterprise Applications & Business Systems
- Provide executive oversight of the company's enterprise application portfolio, including Sage 300 ERP, InspectAll, FileMaker, Power BI, Microsoft Power Platform, and future business systems.
- Partner with department leaders to improve business processes through technology and workflow automation.
- Oversee application governance, licensing, user access, integrations, reporting, and platform optimization.
- Evaluate emerging technologies that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
IT Operations & Service Delivery
- Lead enterprise IT operations supporting more than 35 branch locations across North America.
- Oversee end-user computing, device lifecycle management, endpoint security, and mobile device management utilizing Microsoft Intune.
- Establish measurable service level agreements (SLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and customer satisfaction metrics for IT service delivery.
- Ensure help desk operations consistently deliver responsive, high-quality support while promoting a service-first culture.
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate internal IT personnel while effectively managing outsourced resources and technology partners.
Vendor Management & Technology Governance
- Direct relationships with managed service providers (MSPs), software vendors, consultants, telecommunications providers, and strategic technology partners.
- Negotiate contracts, Statements of Work (SOWs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs), software licensing agreements, and technology renewals.
- Establish vendor scorecards and performance metrics to ensure accountability and maximize return on technology investments.
- Identify and implement new technology solutions that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support business growth.
Digital Transformation & Innovation
- Lead enterprise digital transformation initiatives focused on automation, AI-enabled business processes, cloud modernization, and data-driven decision making.
- Advance the adoption of AI-assisted operations, infrastructure-as-code, workflow automation, and zero-trust security architecture.
- Champion technology initiatives that improve productivity, operational visibility, and customer experience.
- Build repeatable technology standards that scale efficiently as the organization grows.
Project Portfolio Management
- Establish enterprise project governance and oversee the organization's IT project portfolio.
- Lead complex technology implementations from planning through deployment while ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Develop and manage the annual IT operating and capital budgets.
- Present regular updates to executive leadership regarding project status, infrastructure health, cybersecurity risks, financial performance, and technology investments.
- Prioritize initiatives that maximize business value and align with strategic objectives.
Mergers & Acquisitions
- Lead IT due diligence activities for acquisitions, including infrastructure assessments, cybersecurity evaluations, application reviews, and technology integration planning.
- Develop and maintain standardized acquisition integration playbooks that enable rapid onboarding of acquired companies.
- Lead post-acquisition technology integration efforts while minimizing business disruption and accelerating operational alignment.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Information Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- 10–15 years of progressive IT leadership experience, including at least 5 years leading an enterprise IT function.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing enterprise technology strategy for a growing middle-market or multi-site organization.
- Extensive expertise with Microsoft technologies including Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Power BI, Power Platform, and cloud infrastructure.
- Strong experience leading infrastructure operations, networking, systems administration, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity.
- Proven success managing managed service providers, strategic technology vendors, and consulting partners.
- Experience developing IT governance frameworks, technology standards, and cybersecurity policies.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing multi-million-dollar IT operating and capital budgets.
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and executive presentation skills.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business recommendations.
Preferred
- Experience supporting Sage 300 ERP administration.
- Experience with InspectAll, FileMaker, or comparable field service management platforms.
- Background supporting industrial services, manufacturing, construction, logistics, or other multi-site operational businesses.
- Experience leading digital transformation initiatives and enterprise automation programs.
- Experience implementing AI-enabled business solutions and infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience leading technology integration activities during mergers and acquisitions.
- Microsoft certifications (Azure Solutions Architect, Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert), CISSP, PMP, ITIL, Security+, or equivalent certifications.
