Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Infusion / Outpatient Oncology

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Infusion / Outpatient Oncology for a 13-week travel contract in Duarte, California.
This position is ideal for an experienced Infusion RN, Oncology RN, Outpatient Oncology Nurse, Chemotherapy RN, or Cancer Care RN with strong hands-on experience providing outpatient infusion and chemotherapy services.
The successful candidate will provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration, supportive medications, and other infusion therapies.
First-time travelers are welcome to apply. Candidates must have recent and relevant outpatient infusion/oncology experience and be comfortable independently managing chemotherapy patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients receiving outpatient oncology and infusion treatments.
- Administer chemotherapy and other antineoplastic medications according to established protocols.
- Safely administer chemotherapy via IV, IV push, continuous infusion, central lines, implanted ports, and PICC lines.
- Perform port access, port care, central line care, and central line blood draws.
- Initiate peripheral IVs and manage IV infusion therapy.
- Operate and manage infusion pumps.
- Administer intravenous hydration and multivitamin therapy.
- Administer supportive oncology medications, including antiemetics, antibiotics, corticosteroids, hormonal therapies, antitumor agents, Neupogen, and other prescribed treatments.
- Administer oral chemotherapy when indicated.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after chemotherapy and infusion treatments.
- Assess patients for adverse reactions and treatment-related complications.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, acute tumor lysis syndrome, spinal cord compression, and other oncology emergencies.
- Maintain appropriate neutropenic precautions.
- Recognize and communicate abnormal laboratory values to the appropriate provider.
- Assess and manage common oncology-related symptoms including nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, edema, neuropathy, dysphagia, altered mental status, and skin/mucous membrane changes.
- Follow appropriate procedures for handling and disposal of cytotoxic medications and chemotherapy spills.
- Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, medications, side effects, precautions, and follow-up care.
- Provide emotional support and patient-centered care throughout the cancer treatment process.
- Perform phlebotomy and obtain laboratory specimens as required.
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, medications, and responses to care.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Utilize SBAR and other appropriate communication methods for changes in patient condition.
- Float to other appropriate areas and work weekends as required.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention, medication safety, chemotherapy safety, and institutional policies.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible to practice in California.
- Minimum 2 years of professional nursing experience.
- Recent Infusion Center experience required.
- Recent Outpatient Oncology experience required.
- Demonstrated experience administering chemotherapy.
- ONS Chemotherapy Certification required.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
- Strong IV and infusion skills.
- Experience accessing and managing implanted ports.
- Experience with PICC lines and central venous access.
- Experience with chemotherapy precautions and cytotoxic medication handling.
- Strong assessment, communication, documentation, and patient education skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of RN experience.
- Experience caring for patients with multiple types of cancer.
- EPIC/EHR documentation experience.
- Experience administering coagulation factors.
- Previous travel nursing experience.
- Experience in a high-volume outpatient oncology infusion center.
- Strong knowledge of chemotherapy protocols and oncology supportive care.

Schedule & Work Environment
