About Xel Advisors, Inc.

Xel Advisors, Inc. is a full-service accounting and advisory firm serving individuals and businesses across the Inland Empire and greater Los Angeles area. We provide tax, accounting, and advisory services that help our clients stay compliant, plan ahead, and make sound financial decisions. We are looking for a licensed CPA to join our team and take ownership of client engagements across tax, financial reporting, and compliance.

Position Summary

The CPA will manage a portfolio of individual and business clients, handling the full scope of tax preparation and review, financial statement preparation, and ongoing compliance work. This is a client-facing role that combines technical accounting depth with direct advisory responsibility. The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA who can work independently, review the work of junior staff, and serve as a trusted point of contact for clients.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals and businesses (C-corp, S-corp, partnership, LLC, sole proprietor).
Prepare and review financial statements, including Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets, in accordance with applicable standards.
Manage sales tax filings and compliance, including CDTFA reporting and remittance.
Handle business license applications, renewals, and related municipal filings.
Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize client tax liability and support long-term financial goals.
Advise clients on tax, accounting, and general financial matters throughout the year, not only at filing deadlines.
Perform account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and month-end/year-end close support.
Respond to and resolve notices and inquiries from the IRS, FTB, CDTFA, and other taxing authorities.
Review work prepared by staff accountants and provide guidance and mentorship.
Maintain accurate, well-documented workpapers and ensure engagements are completed accurately and on time.
Stay current on changes to federal, California, and local tax law and accounting standards.

Required Qualifications

Active CPA license (California) in good standing.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
3+ years of relevant experience in public accounting or a comparable role covering tax and financial reporting.
Strong working knowledge of federal and California tax law, GAAP, and general accounting principles.
Proficiency with accounting and tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, and a professional tax package such as Lacerte, ProSeries, UltraTax, or Drake).
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a small-to-mid-size CPA firm or advisory practice.
Experience managing sales tax and business license compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior staff.
Bilingual (a plus, depending on client base).
