Chilton Logging Inc. is seeking a motivated, hardworking, and self-driven Forester to join our team in Woodland, Washington. Position Overview
The Forester will play a key role in supporting sustainable forest management practices, timber harvest planning, forest inventory, and landowner relations. This position requires strong organizational skills, sound decision-making, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
Duties and Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional forestry experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of forestry principles and practices, including silviculture, forest ecology, aerial photo interpretation, forest health, pathology, entomology, and natural resource management.
- Experience developing and implementing Forest Management Plans, conducting forest inventories, administering timber harvest operations, and overseeing silvicultural activities.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing forest management, timber harvesting, and environmental compliance.
- Proficiency with GIS and mapping technologies to maintain and update forest stand data, harvest boundaries, road systems, stream locations, and other resources.
- Experience coordinating and managing contractors performing forestry-related services such as site preparation, herbicide application, reforestation, pre-commercial thinning, and vegetation management.
- Self-motivated with exceptional organizational and time-management skills, capable of managing multiple projects from planning through completion.
- Ability to work independently in remote forest environments, navigating rough, brushy, steep, and uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of log marketing, timber valuation, and log accountability procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while building positive relationships with landowners, contractors, regulatory agencies, and fellow employees.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and provide recommendations.
- Ability to advise and support private forest landowners on timber management, harvest planning, reforestation, and long-term stewardship objectives.
- Possesses grit, initiative, and a strong work ethic with a commitment to safety, professionalism, and responsible forest management.
Education:
Typically requires a BA/BS in Forestry, Forest Management or Natural Resource Management.
