Full Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a busy family-law practice. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, compassionate with clients, and able to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. This role provides direct administrative and legal-support assistance in divorce, custody, child-support, and related domestic-relations matters.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, format, proofread, file, and serve routine legal documents, correspondence, discovery, and court materials.
Maintain electronic and physical case files, including pleadings, exhibits, discovery, correspondence, and client records.
Calendar court dates, filing deadlines, meetings, and internal follow-up tasks; monitor deadlines and provide timely reminders.
Communicate professionally and sensitively with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and third-party providers.
Assist with client intake, document collection, appointment scheduling, and follow-up communications.
Organize financial records, discovery materials, and exhibits for attorney review.
Coordinate filings and service of process, including electronic filing where applicable.
Support hearing, mediation, deposition, and trial preparation.
Enter and maintain accurate information in the firm’s practice-management and document-management systems.
Protect confidential client information and follow all firm procedures and ethical obligations.

Required Qualifications

Prior experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, paralegal, or comparable administrative professional; family-law experience is strongly preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work under deadline.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PDF-editing software.
Ability to learn and use legal case-management, calendaring, and e-filing systems.
Professional judgment, discretion, reliability, and a client-service mindset.
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with attorneys and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting divorce, parenting-plan, child-custody, child-support, or other domestic-relations matters.
Familiarity with court filing procedures and local family-court practice.
Experience preparing discovery, organizing financial documents, and assembling hearing or trial exhibits.
