The Opportunity
The Human Resources Manager serves as the primary HR leader for the Clay Center, KS manufacturing facility, providing strategic leadership while managing the day-to-day execution of all human resources functions. This role partners closely with the General Manager and Clay Center Leadership Team to drive business results through effective talent management, employee engagement, workforce planning, compliance, and organizational development.
As the onsite HR leader, the HR Manager provides both strategic guidance and hands-on support across all areas of HR, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits, leave administration, compliance, payroll support, and HR administration. This role is responsible for creating a positive employee experience while ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws.
The Team
Reporting directly to the North America Manufacturing HR Lead, the HR Manager serves as the primary HR resource for the Clay Center manufacturing facility and is an active member of the Clay Center Leadership Team.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the General Manager and Clay Center Leadership Team.
- Develop and execute people strategies that align with business objectives.
- Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational development initiatives.
- Analyze workforce metrics and provide recommendations to improve engagement, retention, productivity, and performance.
- Champion company culture and employee engagement initiatives.
- Lead organizational change and support continuous improvement efforts.
Employee Relations & Talent Management
- Manage employee relations matters including coaching, investigations, conflict resolution, corrective action, and performance management.
- Coach managers on leadership effectiveness and employment best practices.
- Lead recruitment activities for hourly and salaried positions in partnership with Talent Acquisition.
- Oversee onboarding, orientation, and employee development activities.
- Support talent reviews, succession planning, and career development initiatives.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture.
HR Operations
- Manage all day-to-day HR operations for the Clay Center location.
- Administer employee lifecycle processes including hiring, transfers, promotions, leaves of absence, and separations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Partner with Payroll to ensure accurate employee transactions.
- Maintain HRIS data integrity and employee records.
- Support compensation planning, annual performance review processes, and benefit administration.
- Coordinate leave administration, accommodations, and return-to-work processes.
- Prepare reports and analyze HR metrics to support business decisions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EEO, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and other employment regulations.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience as an HR Manager or senior HR Generalist preferred.
- Experience leading employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
- Demonstrated experience supporting manufacturing operations.
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR compliance.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to influence leaders.
- Experience with HRIS systems; UKG experience preferred.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
