Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) Specialist is responsible for managing the financial processes related to patient services, from insurance verification and claim submission through payment posting and collections. This role ensures accurate billing, timely reimbursement, compliance with payer regulations, and efficient management of accounts receivable to support the financial health of the practice.

Key ResponsibilitiesInsurance & Patient Account Management

Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to treatment
Obtain pre-authorizations and referrals as required
Review patient demographics and insurance information for accuracy
Educate patients regarding financial policies, copayments, deductibles, and balances

Medical Billing & Claims Processing

Prepare, review, and submit electronic and paper insurance claims accurately and timely
Ensure correct coding and documentation support for billed procedures
Monitor claim status and resolve claim rejections or denials
Correct and resubmit denied or unpaid claims promptly

Accounts Receivable & Collections

Follow up on outstanding insurance and patient balances
Maintain aging reports and prioritize collection activities
Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claim discrepancies and payment delays
Process patient statements and payment arrangements when appropriate

Payment Posting & Reconciliation

Post insurance and patient payments accurately
Reconcile daily deposits and payment reports
Identify underpayments and contractual discrepancies
Assist with month-end reporting and revenue analysis

Compliance & Documentation

Maintain compliance with HIPAA and payer guidelines
Stay current on insurance policies, coding updates, and billing regulations
Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready records
Support internal audits and compliance reviews

Administrative Support

Collaborate with clinical and front-office teams to improve workflow efficiency
Assist patients with billing questions and account resolution
Generate billing reports and performance metrics as requested

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

Minimum 1–3 years of experience in dental or medical billing, collections, or revenue cycle management preferred
Experience with dental, oral surgery, or healthcare practice management systems preferred

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of insurance billing procedures and reimbursement processes
Familiarity with CDT, CPT, ICD-10, and dental/medical coding concepts
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong communication and customer service abilities
Proficiency in practice management and electronic health record (EHR) systems
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare compliance standards
