Full Job Description

Experienced MIG Welder / Steel Fabricator

Ratec is a global manufacturer of custom steel forming systems for the precast concrete industry. All products are engineered, fabricated, and assembled in-house and shipped worldwide. We design and manufacture engineered steel systems built from drawings. The work requires precision fabrication from blueprints and includes a mix of custom assemblies and standardized components, demanding consistency, dimensional accuracy, and high-quality workmanship.

This position is intended for experienced fabricators. Entry-level welders should not apply.

What You Will Do

Perform high-quality MIG welding on structural and fabricated steel components
Read and work directly from blueprints and shop drawings, including dimensions and weld symbols
Lay out, fit, tack, weld, and finish steel assemblies
Fabricate both custom assemblies and standardized/repeatable components as part of larger systems
Cut, grind, drill, and prepare material using torches and power tools
Check dimensions and inspect weld quality prior to release
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Assist with on-site installation or service work as needed

Required Qualifications

3+ years of professional MIG welding and steel fabrication experience
Proven ability to fabricate independently from blueprints
Experience with custom or one-off fabrication
Proficient with grinders, torches, saws, drills, and measuring tools
Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision
Strong attention to quality, safety, and workmanship

Preferred (Strong Plus)

Structural or heavy steel fabrication experience
Welding certification or trade school background
Experience with industrial equipment or large assemblies
Experience operating forklifts in a fabrication or industrial environment
Experience working with or around overhead cranes (bridge or jib cranes)
Familiarity with safe material handling and load control practices

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, position, and maneuver materials and assemblies up to 75 lbs
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work on your feet for extended periods
Work is performed in an active fabrication shop environment that may be hot, noisy, and physically demanding
Candidates must be comfortable working in non-climate-controlled conditions while maintaining safe and consistent productivity
Ability to safely operate welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment in accordance with shop procedures

Pay & Benefits

$22–$27 per hour, depending on experience and fabrication skill
Full-time, stable schedule (40+ hours, Monday–Friday, some weekends)
