Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Eligibility Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team. The Eligibility Specialist is responsible for completing the end-to-end verification process for all scheduled patients. This position ensures accurate and timely verification of medical insurance benefits, with particular emphasis on Medicare Advantage and Managed Care Medicaid plans. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to patient-centered service.

Responsibilities

Medical Verification:

· Complete insurance eligibility verification within established productivity and turnaround standards.

· Utilize payer portals, eligibility tools, and practice management systems to verify and document coverage information accurately.

· Review eligibility responses to confirm all scheduled patients have active insurance coverage; resolve discrepancies promptly.

· Obtain and validate all missing insurance information for scheduled patients.

· Ensure all insurance details, including self-pay insurance and status, are accurately documented in the appointment record.

· Communicate fees to self-pay patients using the cost estimator tool.

· Navigate complex Coordination of Benefits (COB) and Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) rules to ensure compliance and accuracy.

· Identify plans requiring prior authorization, referrals, or pre-certification and route/escalate appropriately to avoid treatment delays and denials.

· Collaborate with scheduling, clinical, and billing teams to resolve insurance-related issues prior to the patient appointment.

· Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer regulations, and organizational policies related to patient access and protected health information.

Denial Management:

· Support clean claim submission and reduce preventable denials through accurate front-end insurance verification processes.

· Review eligibility related denials.

· Investigate and resolve eligibility-related denials efficiently.

· Correct payer information and resubmit claims within the payer's specific timely filing guidelines.

· Identify trends contributing to eligibility-related denials and recommend process improvements to reduce recurring issues.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 1-2 years of experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in patient access or revenue cycle operations.

· Demonstrate expertise in coordination of benefit and insurance verification processes.

· Comprehensive understanding of qualified health plans options and payer requirements.

· Working knowledge of the revenue cycle including billing and denial management.

· Other job duties as assigned.

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities preferred:

· Experience with EHR/PM systems (e.g., Allscripts, NextGen, EPIC, and IntelleChart)

· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
