Behavioral Health Specialist – Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) – $64K + Exceptional Benefits! Low Caseload!

Make a Direct, Real-World Impact Supporting Individuals with Complex Behavioral Health Needs Across New York City!

Are you a compassionate, flexible, and trauma-informed clinician looking for a deeply meaningful, community-based role?

In this dynamic field position, you will serve as a core member of an innovative Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) team—delivering flexible, person-centered support, harm reduction, and crisis de-escalation to individuals experiencing serious mental health conditions, substance use, housing instability, and justice system involvement.

Rather than trying to "fix" or direct participants, our model is rooted in harm reduction, self-determination, and meeting individuals exactly where they are—whether in streets, shelters, transitional housing, or parks across New York City.

What You'll Do: Community Outreach & Wraparound Care

Direct Community Engagement: Travel via public transportation to meet participants directly in non-traditional, natural settings (streets, shelters, transitional housing, and public spaces) across NYC boroughs.
Person-Centered & Harm Reduction Focus: Utilize motivational interviewing, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care to build long-term trust and support participants in making safer, self-directed life choices.
Symptom & Substance Support: Assist participants in managing complex mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use in a non-judgmental framework.
Overdose Prevention & Harm Reduction: Educate participants on safer practices, offer overdose risk-reduction strategies, and participate in naloxone (Narcan) training and distribution under clinical supervision.
System Navigation & Practical Support: Assist with critical social needs, including housing applications, public benefits enrollment (Medicaid, SNAP, SSI), and warm handoffs to detox or community programs when the participant is ready.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Documentation: Collaborate closely with team psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and peer specialists while maintaining timely clinical progress notes (within 48 hours).

Schedule & On-Call Responsibilities

Work Week: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM base schedule. Flexibility is required for occasional morning, evening, or weekend adjustments based on participant crises or emergent needs.
In-Person Team Meetings: Weekly in-person clinical team meetings every Monday at 9:00 AM at the Bronx office. Other weekly meetings (high-risk review, scheduling) are conducted virtually via Zoom/Teams.
Field Travel: 100% public transportation-based field outreach across NYC boroughs (primarily Bronx and Manhattan). A fully covered company transit card is provided.
On-Call Rotation: Shared phone-only after-hours on-call rotation (typically 1 week at a time). Phone support only—does not require going into the field.

Who You Are: Credentials & Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW), Psychology, Mental Health Counseling (MHC), or a related Health and Human Services field.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with severe mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders (relevant lived experience accepted).
Field Readiness: Comfortable working entirely in non-traditional, outdoor, or shelter settings and navigating New York City via public transit daily.
Core Philosophy: Deep commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed care, participant autonomy, and non-coercive treatment models.
Clearances: Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the New York State Justice Center.
