Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Full-Time In-House Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage comprehensive accounting functions, including profit and loss analysis, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, experience with various financial software, and a passion for ensuring accuracy and integrity in financial data. As a key member of our organization, you will drive financial clarity and support strategic decision-making through meticulous analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

Prepare, analyze, and interpret profit and loss statements to provide insights into company performance
Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all journal entries are accurately recorded using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero
Reconcile bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other balance sheet accounts to ensure consistency and accuracy
Conduct monthly closing procedures, including account reconciliation and financial statement preparation in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
Support regulatory compliance accounting by managing tax filings, regulatory reporting, and adherence to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls
Perform detailed financial analysis including cash flow analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and variance reporting to aid management decision-making
Assist with internal audits and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial data
Manage payroll processing and related tax filings while ensuring compliance with relevant laws such as securities law or governmental accounting standards when applicable
Utilize advanced Excel functions such as VLOOKUP for data analysis, spreadsheet management for financial reports, and Excel data analysis techniques to enhance reporting accuracy

Requirements

Proven experience in accounting and finance roles with a strong understanding of financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and general ledger reconciliation
Proficiency in financial software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms; experience with Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel is essential
Knowledge of regulatory standards such as GAAP, SOX compliance requirements, and industry-specific regulations like LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) or securities law is preferred
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately
Excellent attention to detail combined with effective organizational skills for managing multiple tasks simultaneously
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff or team members in technical accounting practices is a plus
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA certification or equivalent is highly desirable
Experience working within non-profit accounting or governmental accounting frameworks is advantageous
