Full Job Description

Position Location: Clinton Township

Position Purpose:

Practicum students are a valued role at University Pediatrician’s Autism Center (UPAC) as a support to the BCBA, the behavior technicians and clients. The practicum student will experience various learning opportunities as they transition between a behavior technician and a qualified behavioral professional. The practicum student will contribute their time and efforts to supporting client caseload through activities such as training staff, working with various client profiles, behavior management support, case conceptualization, report writing, program writing, conducting assessments and reporting case conceptualization to the BCBA.

Qualifications:

Enrollment in a BCBA or BCaBA program through an accredited university; must have started coursework and be eligible to start practicum before entering this role. Behavior analysis experience required. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification required including the passing of UPAC rubrics for the RBT competency assessment by a UPAC staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Strong work ethic including efficiency at task completion and taking initiative to complete appropriate tasks. Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions and transfer education to application. Ability to problem solve using behavior analytic methodology. Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. The practicum student must be proficient at organization, prioritization, professionalism and communication.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) required
Safety Care Trainer, preferred

Expectations and Responsibilities:

1. A strong foundation of behavior analytic terminology and understanding is imperative to the success of this role.

2. Work directly with clients implementing applied behavior analysis (ABA) treatment with clients of various skills aged 0-21.

3. Document client performance accurately and consistently in data and clinical documents

4. Train staff to work with various clients through the implementation of rubrics, administration of professional feedback, assessment of staff skills, development of staff goals, data collection on progress towards goals, use OBM strategies to improve staff performance, and communicate with BCBA and Center Director on staff performance.

5. Write clinical documents using evidence-based behavior analytic methodology and appropriate case conceptualization. Such documents include programs, treatment plans, discharge reports, functional analysis proposals, etc.

6. Conduct client assessments and synthesize findings into reports. Assessments may include skills assessments, behavioral assessments, parent interview, staff interviews, record review, observations, etc.

7. Conduct RBT competency assessment and corresponding rubrics for staff

8. Supplement parent and staff training in various methods (hands on, didactic, etc.)

9. Update clinical systems with client documents (ie Sharepoint, Accupoint, Catalyst, etc.)

10. Implement Safety Care strategies to support client behavior management.

11. Make and gather materials for client programming, review research and incorporate it into client programming, research resources and supports for families as needed.

12. Ability to travel and conduct services in various environments such as in home, center, community and school

13. Support center organization and materials are kept up (ie batteries in toys and other office equipment is in working order)

14. Meet with BCBA and Center Director for supervision on behavior analytic decisions at least weekly.

15. Attend meetings and complete tasks that may not count towards practicum hours. Students should be collecting 20-30 hours per week of practicum experiences.

16. Track practicum hours, tasks, supervision and rubric scores. Professionally communicate need for support, supervision, tasks, guidance, etc.

17. Maintain BACB requirements for practicum hours, tracking, tasks, supervision and qualifications.

18. Implement opening and/or closing management for center.

19. Employees are expected to be available to provide services in non-traditional work settings when needed during these non-traditional business hours. Employees should understand that their schedule could change based on company need. Employees are expected to maintain a schedule with appropriate availability including evenings and weekends.
