Associate Financial Advisor

Location: West Des Moines, Iowa

Status: Full-time, in-office

Compensation: $80K-$90K

Are you a developing Wealth Management professional who wants a clear path to becoming a successful Associate Financial Advisor within a successful firm? Do you want the freedom to work on meaningful, comprehensive planning work while also having an impact on the growth of the firm?

We are an independent wealth management firm with more than 40 years of combined experience in financial planning. We build truly holistic plans for our clients that combine investment management, tax planning, trust and estate planning, and insurance analysis. We believe there is no higher honor than safeguarding our clients’ financial futures through sound, no-nonsense planning driven by their unique goals and needs.

We’re excited to share an opportunity for an Associate Financial Advisor to join our growing team. This is a dual-focus role: approximately 60% of your time will be devoted to servicing and deepening an assigned book of existing client relationships, while the remaining 40% will be dedicated to business development – growing the firm by cultivating new relationships and expanding our reach in the community. If you’re someone who genuinely loves working with clients and has a natural aptitude for connecting with new people and building opportunities, this role was built for you.

You'll be mentored directly by our firm's top advisors, including the founders, learning their approach firsthand and sitting in as second chair at client meetings. Throughout your first year, you'll earn the required Wealth Management licenses, and by year's end, you'll be managing clients of your own.

What You Can Expect to Do

Client Service (approximately 60%)

Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding each client’s unique goals, connections, and personal interests
Collaborate closely with the founding partners to deliver firm-wide initiatives and client service excellence
Conduct at least annual reviews of each client’s income, assets, and plan to ensure recommendations remain current and aligned
Rebalance client portfolios in accordance with the firm’s investment criteria and using approved tools
Maintain detailed records and diligent follow-through on all client activities and next steps
Uphold the firm’s fiduciary commitment through sound judgment and ethical decision-making
Comply with all FINRA/SEC/Commonwealth compliance requirements and maintain continuing education obligations

After One Year

Take the lead client relationships, providing holistic planning and proactive, high-touch communication
Lead client meetings, analyze financial data, and develop customized recommendations across investments, retirement, tax, insurance, and estate planning

Business Development (approximately 40%)

Cultivate and manage a network of Centers of Influence (COIs) – including attorneys, CPAs, and other professionals – to generate and nurture referral relationships
Develop and implement a personal business development strategy aligned with the firm’s growth goals and values
Represent the firm at networking events, community outreach activities, and professional associations to build visibility and relationships
Identify and pursue opportunities to deepen relationships with existing clients to generate referrals to friends, family, and colleagues
Qualify prospective clients and manage initial conversations through to a first meeting with the advisory team
Use the firm’s CRM to maintain current records on all prospects, pipeline activity, and outreach efforts
Participate in internal strategy sessions to refine the firm’s business development approach and share what’s working
Continuously expand your knowledge of the firm’s services and ideal client profile to communicate our value proposition with clarity and confidence

Qualifications

Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in financial planning or wealth management, with 1-3 years in a client-facing role
Bachelor’s degree required
Willingness to obtain the Series, 7 and Series 66 (within a year)
Demonstrated aptitude for or experience in business development, relationship management, or practice growth preferred
Proficiency with planning and CRM tools; RightCapital and Advisor360 experience preferred
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and client focus
