Full Job Description

What You’ll Do

WNC Communities is seeking a knowledgeable, organized, and dependable professional to coordinate our livestock commissions and programs while providing a consistent WNC Communities presence at the WNC Regional Livestock Center. In coordination with the leased operator, this person will help ensure facility needs requiring WNC Communities’ attention are communicated and addressed, manage grant-funded improvement projects, and support the long-term care of this important regional asset.

The right candidate will understand livestock agriculture, particularly cattle, and will be comfortable working independently with farmers, volunteers, Extension personnel, government partners, contractors, vendors, and commission members. This is meaningful, flexible work for someone who values agriculture, follows through on details, and can shift easily between a cattle sale, a committee meeting, an event, and the administrative work behind the scenes.

Key responsibilities include:

Maintains a regular presence at the weekly livestock sale to serve as WNC Communities’ on-site representative and support communication with the operator
Helps ensure facility needs are documented, communicated, and addressed by the appropriate parties
Manages approved grant-funded improvement projects, coordinating with contractors, vendors, the operator, and organizational partners
Coordinating WNC Beef Cattle Commission meetings, records, communications, and follow-up
Supporting WNC Dairy Commission and WNC Beef Cattle Commission activities associated with the Mountain State Fair, including the Junior Dairy Show, Junior Beef Show, and donor engagement
Coordinating the annual Beef Cattle Tour and other livestock events, scholarship activities, and seasonal programs
Maintaining calendars, correspondence, registrations, program files, budget information, and grant records
Collecting, documenting, safeguarding, and promptly submitting event fees, dues, donations, and other funds in accordance with established procedures
Providing timely updates to the Executive Director and maintaining responsive communication with producers, volunteers, and partners

What You Bring

Alignment with WNC Communities’ mission and values is essential. Ideal candidates will have:

Familiarity with livestock operations, cattle producers, farming, or rural community programs; knowledge of cattle and the regional livestock community is strongly preferred
Strong organizational and follow-through skills with careful attention to detail
Clear, responsive, and professional written and verbal communication skills
The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and carry out responsibilities with limited day-to-day supervision
Experience coordinating meetings, events, programs, facilities, contractors, or projects
Comfort building trusted relationships with farmers, volunteers, agricultural partners, contractors, vendors, and commission members
Working familiarity with common office and video-conferencing technology, along with a willingness and ability to learn the systems used by WNC Communities.
A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to work in office, event, and agricultural facility environments

Bonus experience:

Facility operations, maintenance coordination, or contractor supervision
Reviewing construction documents, architectural plans, or CAD drawings
Agricultural events, livestock shows, donor engagement, scholarships, or grant-funded projects

Job Details

Part-Time: Average of 12–15 hours per week annually; hours vary seasonally
Compensation: Starting at $22 per hour, with final compensation based on experience and qualifications.
Work Environment: Hybrid, with regular work at the WNC Regional Livestock Center in Canton, occasional work at the WNC Communities office in Asheville, and remote work as appropriate
Schedule: Weekly livestock sale attendance plus occasional evening and weekend responsibilities for meetings, events, and seasonal activities
Reports To: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/hourly
