JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant (temporary)

DEPARTMENT: Accounting

LOCATION: La Quinta, CA

REPORTS TO: Controller

WORK SCHEDULE: Minimum of 40 hours per week scheduled as determined by Supervisor. This assignment will last approximately 3 to 4 months.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Accountant will support the day-to-day operations of the company, including general ledger review, account reconciliations, cost accounting analysis, fixed asset accounting, month-end close activities, and assists in accounts payable and receivable transactions among other duties in a well-established Agriculture Company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Position entails heavy Excel use: data capture, management and analysis.
Maintain the general ledger, including preparing and posting journal entries and reconciling accounts.
Support month-end and year-end close processes, intercompany transactions, and accruals.
Processing heavy accounts payable transactions, cost accounting coding and analyses.
Print, review, and distribute checks, ACH & wires for weekly vendor payments and advance payments.
Produce daily operational and cost & revenue analysis reports for various business segments.
Analyze costs related to growing, harvesting, and packing.
Create and/or assist with the development of new reports and analyses.
Review accounts payable transactions for proper approval and coding.
Vendor maintenance to include vendor setup correspondence and credit applications.
Generate intercompany invoices and related accounts payable vouchers.
Ensure all account balances are auditable, agree to the general ledger and reflect proper safeguards.
Research, analyze and interpret issues, differences and inconsistencies within the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external parties to secure required financial data for month-end closings, as well as to produce various reports.
Visit various fields, nurseries and other company operational locations away from main office to increase knowledge or research and analyze issues with business segments and operational reports.
Assist with year-end financial statement audits and other regulatory examination requests.
Update job knowledge by attending seminars/webinars and reading professional publications.
Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business with Accounting Focus required.
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
Excellent accounting software, Excel user and administration skills.
Familiarity with cost accounting, agricultural, perishable-goods or manufacturing environment.
Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level and working conditions are similar to those for an administrative office. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, Precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold or heat.

Pay: $27.00 - $28.00 per hour
