Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to provide strategic financial leadership for a premier luxury resort in Cooperstown, NY. This individual will serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and will be responsible for maintaining the financial health of the property through accurate financial reporting, cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, internal controls, and profitability initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned hospitality finance professional with prior Director of Finance experience within a hotel, resort, country club, or hospitality organization. Luxury hospitality experience is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Strategy

Provide leadership and direction for all hotel finance and accounting functions

Analyze financial performance and advise executive leadership on profitability initiatives

Manage cash flow, forecasting, receivables, payables, and cash balances

Develop annual operating budgets and long-range financial plans

Create monthly forecasts and variance analyses while recommending corrective actions
-
Support ownership and executive management with financial planning and decision-making
-
Analyze financial data and operations to assist management in achieving financial objectives
Financial Reporting & Controls

Prepare and oversee accurate and timely financial reporting
-
Ensure monthly financial statements are completed according to established deadlines
-
Review and approve all balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounts

Monitor daily operating reports and key financial metrics

Maintain strong internal controls across all accounting functions
-
Establish and continually audit internal controls related to purchasing, payroll, cash handling, inventories, disbursements, hotel assets, and employee records

Safeguard company assets through auditing and compliance measures
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

Develop annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and variance analyses
-
Create and maintain 5-year financial plans and capital expenditure plans

Monitor revenue and expense performance against budget and prior year results

Investigate financial variances and recommend process improvements

Manage cash flow forecasting and operating projections

Deliver weekly, monthly, and annual financial reporting packages
Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations

Oversee operational taxes, licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and legal agreements

Maintain compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

Coordinate internal and external audits
-
Work directly with CPA firms and auditors to ensure timely completion of audit requirements

Maintain compliance with resort standards and operational requirements
Leadership & Team Development

Hire, train, supervise, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff

Manage performance, coaching, counseling, and employee development
-
Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

Collaborate closely with department leaders and Executive Committee members
-
Ensure operational departments remain aligned with financial goals and reporting requirements

Qualifications
Experience & Skills
-
Minimum 5+ years of hospitality finance or accounting experience required
-
Prior Director of Finance experience within a hotel, resort, country club, or hospitality organization required

Luxury hotel or resort experience strongly preferred
-
Limited-service hotel finance experience will be considered

Proven leadership experience supervising finance and accounting staff

Experience managing internal and external audits
-
Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting experience
-
Strong understanding of internal controls and hospitality accounting practices
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, accounting software, and hotel management systems
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
