JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
DEPARTMENT: Nursing
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing (DON) and/or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
JOB SUMMARY: A Certified Nursing Aide is responsible for supporting medical staff in administering care to patients with various injuries, illnesses or disabilities. Their duties include helping patients bathe and maintain proper hygiene, feeding patients or ensuring they take their medication and assessing their patients’ vital signs to notify staff of any changes.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Certified Nurse Aides are responsible for many patient care tasks to ensure that each patient receives the comprehensive and personalized care they need. They often have the following responsibilities:
Tending to daily resident care, to include, but not limited to the following:
- Rapidly responds to resident “Call Lights” and resident requests.
- Keeps Charge Nurse informed regarding changing conditions of residents and or pertinent observations, such as symptoms, reactions, or physical or mental reactions.
- Prepares and reports information to Nurse as requested.
- Recognizes when a situation cannot be handled independently and is willing to ask for appropriate assistance.
- Maintains clean and safe working environment and resident room environment, correcting situations that may cause accidents or injury.
- Bathing and daily grooming tasks, such as cleaning hands and faces, combing/brushing hair, dental care, getting residents dressed and undressed, and toileting.
- Help maximize their comfort by retrieving more pillows or blankets for them.
- Throughout their shift, they remain close by to assist Nurses and Doctors in moving patients, administering medication, or changing bandages.
- Assist other staff as needed.
- Assist with moving residents to and from wheelchairs, walkers, beds, shower chairs, bathing areas, etc.
- Bathing patients with low mobility
- Preparing rooms for new arrivals with necessary items like blankets, pillows, medical equipment and bathroom needs
- Helps patients eat and take medications
- Ensure residents have regular meals and proper medication dosages.
- Monitoring vitals and patient behavior and reporting them to the nursing and medical staff
- Turning or adjusting patients in bed to prevent bedsores or other discomfort
- Exercising patients by helping them walk
- Patient/Resident notes in current HHNH systems.
- Works as part of the overall Nursing team of staff.
- Maintains positive resident relationships.
- Always has the best interest of the resident in mind.
- Consistently and accurately follows safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Understands Resident Rights and proper procedure for reporting abuse or neglect.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Knowledge of relevant nursing care
- Friendly and professional bedside manner
- Maintains current CPR certification
- Multi-tasking skills
- Effective oral, written, and reading communication skills
- Understands legal implications of patient care
· Ability to understand and follow directions.
· Detail-oriented and thorough.
Education and Experience:
· A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
· Successful completion of Certified Nurse Aide coursework.
· Active Certification with the state of Texas.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods walking or standing.
· Must be able to lift, carry, and place up to 60 pounds at a time.
· Must be able to workdays, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
· Must be able to bend, stoop, and wipe frequently.
· Must frequently immerse hands in water.
· Must be flexible to work in a variety of situations, including showering, bathing, mealtimes,
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
