In the Laboratory Services setting—also known as the Clinical Laboratory, Diagnostic Services, Pathology Services, or the Lab Department—you’ll operate in a rural generalist model that keeps skills sharp across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and transfusion services. As the Laboratory Supervisor , you’ll balance hands-on bench work with oversight of daily workflow, prioritizing STATs from the emergency department, supporting inpatient and outpatient care, and coordinating with nursing and providers to keep turnaround times tight and communication clear. The hospital’s critical access environment means meaningful autonomy and broad responsibility: staffing plans that match daily demand, instrument maintenance and basic troubleshooting, QC/QA oversight, and continuous process improvement using data from the LIS/Middleware environment. Scheduling is primarily daytime with flexibility for operational needs, and you’ll have latitude to align resources, cross-train team members, and standardize procedures—leveraging modern diagnostic equipment to maintain reliability and efficiency. This is a true broad generalist testing environment where your leadership directly impacts community-focused patient care.

Reporting is streamlined so you can lead effectively: the role interfaces closely with the lab’s medical director/pathology oversight, partners with nursing leadership, and collaborates daily with physicians, advanced practice providers, and ancillary teams such as pharmacy, radiology, and respiratory therapy. Primary responsibilities include supervising and mentoring medical laboratory scientists/technicians and phlebotomy staff; coordinating schedules and competencies; ensuring compliance with CLIA requirements and proficiency testing; validating and verifying new methods; maintaining policies and procedures; and driving standard work across shifts. You’ll serve as a resource for complex troubleshooting, support test utilization initiatives, and contribute to an inclusive, supportive team culture that welcomes ideas and shares wins candidly. Candidates with experience as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Operations Supervisor, Lab Manager, or Medical Lab Team Lead will find the scope and autonomy both engaging and authentic.
