Full Job Description

This job is located at the United States Air Force Academy – Colorado Springs, CO

Company: HMG, LLC

Pay Rate: $33.13 per hour

Health & Welfare: $9.40 - $12.76 per hour up to
40 hours per week to be used toward benefit premiums

Job Type: Full-time

Work Location: In person

Job description:

The Laboratory Technician conducts laboratory tests and analyses on water and wastewater samples to assess their quality, identify contaminants, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Collect water and wastewater samples from various sources, including treatment plants, distribution systems, and environmental sources.
Follow standard operating procedures for sample collection to ensure accuracy and representativeness.
Perform a variety of laboratory tests on water and wastewater samples using specialized equipment and instrumentation.
Analyze samples for parameters such as pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), nutrients, metals, and other relevant indicators.
Utilize testing methods in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports documenting findings.
Ensure that the laboratory’s activities comply with regulatory requirements.
Work with water treatment plant operators, environmental scientists, and other professionals to address water quality concerns.
Maintain accurate and organized records of all laboratory activities, test results, and quality control measures.
Must be able to work independently and as a team.
This position is subject to shift work based on operation need.
Must be able to perform on-call duties when scheduled and report to work within one hour of notification.
Must be able to work alternate shift schedules when necessary to meet requirements of the customer, this may include weekends and holidays.
All Other Duties/Projects as Assigned.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Must have experience doing the following analysis: CBODs (BODs), total suspended solids, pH, Hach DR 6000 Spectrophotometer analysis for nutrients and UVT, alkalinity, and MPN and solids testing for anaerobic sludge.
Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes
Familiarity with laboratory equipment and analytical techniques
Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
Understanding of regulatory requirements related to water quality.
Strong skills in communications, problem-solving, analytics, and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand, walk, bend, crawl, reach, push, pull, and climb.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Security Requirements:

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain all applicable federal security clearances.
Required drug screening, physical, and background check.

Driving Requirements:

A valid state driver license is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by HMG’s insurance company.
