Full Job Description

COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Energy Resource Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on increasing the comfort, safety, and efficiency of Colorado homes, especially for low-income households.

The Development Coordinator supports ERC’s development, marketing, Pay It Forward, and grants/fundraising functions across all (5) offices. Reporting to the Director of Programs, this position provides coordination, communications, research, donor stewardship, grant support, and operational follow-through that help ERC grow retained earnings and strengthen community partnerships. The Development Coordinator works closely with the Director of Programs, leadership team, regional staff, community partners, donors, vendors, contractors, and volunteers to advance ERC’s mission and support both program growth and organizational fundraising priorities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Development/Marketing:

Support ERC’s development and marketing activities across all (5) office locations, including donor and partner communications, e-newsletters, social media coordination, print and digital materials, business networking, trade organization relationships, community outreach, and public-awareness efforts. .Coordinate with the Community Outreach Coordinator and leadership team as needed to ensure messaging is accurate, mission-focused, and aligned with ERC’s brand and strategic goals. Assist with planning and execution of organizational events, including timelines, logistics, vendor and volunteer communication, sponsor recognition, ticket/table tracking, and follow-up.

2.    Pay It Forward Program:

Assist the Director of Programs with ERC’s fee-for-service program, Pay It Forward. Support outreach, networking, lead tracking, and partner engagement for market-rate HVAC, insulation, energy audits, and whole-home energy efficiency packages. Help build relationships with property managers, remodeling contractors, trade partners, community leaders, businesses, and other referral sources. Coordinate program communications, support follow-up with prospective customers and partners, and help promote the program’s purpose: using earned revenue to support free or reduced-cost services for households that cannot afford needed energy efficiency and health/safety improvements. Establishing a stable and strategic pipeline of work supporting company growth and resilience.

3.    Grants/Fundraising:

Support ERC’s foundation, corporate, individual donor, and in-kind fundraising efforts. Assist with researching prospective grant makers and funding opportunities, maintaining an annual grants calendar, drafting and organizing proposal materials, tracking deadlines, preparing reports, and maintaining accurate grant and donor files. Help steward existing donors and funders while supporting cultivation of new opportunities with foundations, banks, businesses, municipalities, utility partners, and community organizations. Record, process, and acknowledge gifts; prepare thank-you letters, receipts, sponsor acknowledgements, and donor correspondence; and maintain donor database records, mailing lists, reports, and periodic metrics as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, marketing, or a related field preferred; and/or a minimum of 2 years of increasingly responsible administrative, coordination, marketing, fundraising, grant support, or office support experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening, including marijuana. Candidates will be subject to a criminal background check and motor vehicle report. (See job-specific qualifications below):

 Valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 2 weeks and a good driving record.
  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with donors, volunteers, vendors, contractors, staff, community partners, and the general public.
General knowledge of fundraising practices and principles; nonprofit experience preferred.
 Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and preparing donor, marketing, and grant-related communications.
 Ability to understand and apply fundraising ethics, donor confidentiality standards, and professional stewardship practices.
 Proficiency with common office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and comfort learning new systems.
 Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, maintain accurate records, and produce high-quality work with minimal supervision.
 Knowledge of, or ability to learn, grant writing, proposal development, reporting requirements, and fundraising research tools.
 Experience with database/data entry, data management, mailing lists, reports, donor records, or similar tracking tools.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

(Licensing/Certification)

 Experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant coordination, donor stewardship, corporate sponsorships, or community partnerships.
 Ability to coordinate event logistics and follow-up, including vendor, contractor, participant, sponsor, and volunteer communication.
 Experience assisting with marketing, outreach, e-newsletters, social media, public relations, or business networking activities.
 Experience supporting fee-for-service, social enterprise, or earned-revenue programs. 
 Proven ability to maintain relationships with donors, funders, stakeholders, community partners, vendors, and contractors.

REPORTS TO: Director of Programs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY: No Supervisory Responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

These are essential functions and are required to perform the work effectively. While the role of Development Coordinator primarily focuses on coordination, communication, research, and data-driven tasks, there are some physical requirements that may be relevant. These requirements are generally about comfort, efficiency, ergonomics, and occasional event or office support rather than intense physical exertion: 

 Good Vision: To read, review, and prepare grant materials, donor records, reports, spreadsheets, marketing documents, and electronic communications.
 Manual Dexterity: To use a computer keyboard, mouse, copier, phone, and other office equipment effectively. 
 Sitting for Long Periods: This position often requires desk-based work, computer use, and extended periods of written communication or data entry.
 Verbal and Written Communication: To communicate professionally with donors, funders, vendors, staff, contractors, volunteers, and community partners.
 Attention to Detail: Although this is a mental requirement, it often correlates with good focus and physical stamina when managing deadlines, records, and written materials.
 Occasional Lifting: Lifting or moving files, boxes, event materials, printed collateral, or office supplies, typically up to 25 lbs.
