About the Role
FPIN is seeking a highly motivated, relationship-oriented professional to join our team as a Membership Manager in a leadership development role.
This position is designed for someone who is ready to grow quickly, take ownership, and become a visible representative of FPIN to residency programs, faculty, program directors, and national leaders in family medicine. The right person will be energized by connecting with people, building trust, solving problems, and helping member programs feel supported and successful.
During the first year, you will work closely with FPIN’s Membership Manager and Writing Project Manager to learn the organization from the inside out. You will gain hands-on experience in member engagement, program support, organizational operations, and writing project workflows. This training period is intentional: understanding how FPIN’s scholarly writing projects work is essential to effectively supporting, retaining, and strengthening our member programs.
As your knowledge and confidence grow, you will transition into a more independent leadership role with increasing responsibility for member relationships, program success, communication, recruitment, retention, and membership strategy.

Key Responsibilities
Membership Leadership & Relationship Management
Over time, this will become the primary focus of the role.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with residency programs, faculty, program directors, and educators
- Serving as a trusted point of contact for member programs
- Conducting regular check-ins with members to assess engagement, identify barriers, and support program success
- Helping member programs understand FPIN benefits, expectations, timelines, and opportunities
- Supporting recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention of member programs
- Identifying opportunities to improve the member experience and strengthen participation
- Representing FPIN with professionalism, warmth, confidence, and enthusiasm
- Gradually taking ownership of member communication, relationship management, and membership workflows
- Contributing ideas to improve membership strategy, engagement, and long-term growth
Publishing & Writing Project Support
- During the training phase, this role will also support FPIN’s writing project operations in order to build a strong understanding of the member experience.
- Responsibilities include:
- Working alongside the Writing Project Manager to learn FPIN’s editorial and writing project workflows
- Supporting manuscript tracking and communication through Editorial Manager
- Developing a working understanding of project timelines, expectations, and common challenges
- Helping ensure members receive clear, timely, and supportive communication
- Building the knowledge needed to confidently guide member programs through FPIN’s writing project process
- This role does not involve writing or editing manuscripts. The focus is on workflow coordination, communication, and program support.
Conference, Travel & External Engagement
Responsibilities include:
- Representing FPIN at national conferences, including events such as STFM, RLS, FUTURE, QI & PI, WONCA, and NAPCRG
- Participating in outreach, networking, presentations, meetings, and workshops
- Traveling to residency programs to support workshops and relationship-building efforts
- Engaging confidently with physicians, faculty, residents, educators, and organizational leaders
- Helping FPIN create a welcoming, professional, and memorable presence at external events
Organizational & Team Leadership Support
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing to cross-functional projects and organizational initiatives
- Supporting internal systems, reporting, and communication workflows
- Helping improve processes related to membership, engagement, onboarding, and retention
- Participating in a collaborative, high-accountability team environment
- Bringing initiative, follow-through, and a solutions-oriented mindset to daily work

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to commute in-person to our Columbia, MO office
- Ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, or priorities
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Demonstrated reliability, follow-through, and professionalism
- Comfort using Microsoft Office; Excel experience preferred
- Willingness to travel approximately 10 days per year
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in membership, customer success, account management, program coordination, sales, outreach, nonprofit work, or relationship management
- Experience working with physicians, educators, academic programs, or professional organizations
- Experience in academic medicine, publishing, medical education, or nonprofit organizations
- Familiarity with Editorial Manager or similar tracking systems
- Experience representing an organization at events, conferences, or meetings
Work Environment
Full-time position
Hybrid schedule: in office Tuesday through Thursday in Columbia, Missouri; remote Monday and Friday
Travel required approximately 10 days per year
