English Instructor – English Composition I (ENG 101)

Employment Type: Part-Time Faculty (Minimum 12 Hours Per Week)

Reports To: Program Director, Diagnostic Medical Sonography & Chief Administrative Officer

Compensation: $40.00 per hour (Instructional & Required Academic Duties)

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in English, English Composition, Rhetoric, Literature, Communications with graduate coursework in English, or closely related discipline.
Minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in English.
Previous college-level teaching experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience teaching first-year composition or academic writing preferred.
Experience with learning management systems and instructional technology preferred.
Commitment to student success, academic excellence, and institutional integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

Community college, university, or allied health education experience.
Experience teaching students entering healthcare professions.
Familiarity with accreditation standards for postsecondary education.
Experience integrating critical thinking, research, and professional writing into coursework.
Ability to collaborate within interdisciplinary academic programs.

Position Summary

Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute (SEHWI) is seeking a dynamic and engaging English Instructor to teach English Composition I (ENG 101) for students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (AADMS) Program. This position will also support future associate degree and allied health academic offerings as the institution continues to expand.

The English Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in college-level composition while fostering critical thinking, research skills, professional communication, and academic writing necessary for success in healthcare education and professional practice.

The instructor will maintain compliance with institutional policies, South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (SC CHE) requirements, Council on Occupational Education (COE) standards, and future programmatic accreditation expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teach English Composition I (ENG 101) utilizing the approved institutional syllabus.
Deliver engaging classroom instruction that promotes academic excellence and student engagement.
Develop lessons emphasizing:
Academic writing
Critical thinking
Reading comprehension
Research methods
Documentation and citation
Professional communication
Healthcare writing applications
Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and academic records.
Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, essays, presentations, and classroom participation.
Provide timely feedback to students.
Maintain office hours and academic support for student success.
Participate in curriculum review and continuous program improvement.
Collaborate with allied health faculty to ensure writing assignments align with healthcare professions.
Submit grades and required documentation within institutional deadlines.
Participate in faculty meetings, institutional professional development, and accreditation activities as requested.
Maintain compliance with all institutional academic policies.
Foster an inclusive, respectful, and professional learning environment.

Instructional Responsibilities

The English Instructor will be expected to:

Prepare weekly lesson plans.
Maintain Canvas (or institutional LMS) course materials.
Grade assignments promptly.
Monitor student progress and communicate academic concerns.
Encourage critical thinking and scholarly writing.
Integrate technology into classroom instruction.
Support institutional student retention initiatives.
Maintain regular communication with the Program Director and Administration.

Students completing ENG 101 should demonstrate proficiency in:
