The purpose of this job is to supervise maintenance operations at the Columbia Regional Airport to ensure safe, efficient, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) compliant facilities and airfield conditions for commercial and general aviation activities. The position supervises maintenance personnel, airfield inspections, snow and ice control activities, preventive maintenance programs, regulatory compliance efforts, capital improvement projects, and budget administration while promoting a culture of safety and operational excellence.

- Supervises, manages, and evaluates assigned employees and makes decisions about hiring, and discipline of employees; prioritizes and assigns work; develops and oversees employee work schedules and approves time away from work; provides and/or facilitates employee training and development; addresses employee concerns and/or problems; counsels and/or disciplines as appropriate; completes employee performance appraisals; determines or makes recommendations regarding new hire salaries; and acts as liaison between employees and management.

Manages snow and ice removal operations and airport winter weather response.

Creates and implements preventative maintenance plans.

Coordinates all airport maintenance needs with tenants, general aviation, and commercial aviation customers.

Inspects, monitors, instructs, and reports on maintenance activities.

Receives and responds to inquiries and complaints.

Oversees budgets, expenditures, and contractual services. Recommends purchases, develops specifications, and analyzes bids for acceptance.

Creates and maintains accurate records.

Manages special projects.

Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (2 or more full-time employees), including providing input on hiring, issuing formal discipline, conducting performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. Such authority is not merely of a routine or clerical nature but requires the use of independent judgment.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
Education and Experience

Certification program or 2 years of college in a related field. Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.

5 to 7 years’ experience in airfield maintenance or a related field.
Licenses or Certifications
-
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no airbrake restriction.

Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
-
Electrician and welding certification preferred.
