Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Guidance Counselor to inspire and support students in their academic, social, emotional and behavioral development. In this vital role, you will serve as a trusted advisor, advocate and resource for students navigating their educational journey. Your energetic approach will foster a positive school environment where every student feels valued, understood and empowered to reach their full potential. You will collaborate closely with teachers, parents and community agencies to ensure holistic support tailored to each child's unique needs.

Duties

Provide comprehensive academic advising to help students select appropriate courses aligned with their interests and future goals. Knowledge of SC diploma options, CTE pathways, and Dual Enrollment program is essentials
All aspects of course selection including, but not limited to: development of IGP plans, scheduling classes, monitoring virtual course completion, and transcript audits to ensure students are on track to graduate
Maintenance of student data associated with Middle School and High School level school accountability (school report cards)
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions focused on behavioral health, mental health counseling and social-emotional learning.
Develop, monitor and maintain systems for monitoring student attendance and work with building administration to reduce chronic absenteeism
Facilitate weekly guidance lessons for all 7th and 8th grade students in a dedicated guidance block; Facilitate a 30 min daily advisory period for one cohort of High School students.
Working with High School students to explore, apply and prepare for post-high school opportunities (college or career based)
Develop and implement behavior management strategies to promote positive classroom environments
Assist students with conflict-management techniques and conflict-resolution skills
Support students in understanding standardized testing processes and preparation strategies
Collaborate with child protective services, social workers and other community resources to ensure child welfare and safety
Offer specialized counseling services including childhood development guidance, cultural diversity counseling and behavioral health support
Facilitate workshops on social skills, mental health awareness, and life skills for students of diverse backgrounds
Maintain detailed records of counseling sessions, progress notes, and intervention plans in compliance with school policies
Advocate for students’ needs by coordinating with teachers on classroom experience adjustments and individualized support plans

Experience

Bachelor’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field; Master’s degree preferred; SC Licensure as a guidance counselor preferred
Proven experience working with children and adolescents in educational or social service settings
Strong knowledge of childhood development principles, behavioral health practices and mental health counseling techniques
Familiarity with special education programs and accommodations for diverse learning needs
Experience managing conflicts effectively through communication skills and conflict management strategies
Demonstrated ability to conduct individual/group counseling sessions with sensitivity to cultural diversity
Knowledge of child welfare laws, child protective services procedures and classroom experience is highly desirable
Demonstrated knowledge of PowerSchool
Familiarity with the Middle and High School Accountability Models
