POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR KNOWLEDGE WORKS LEARNING ACADEMY, INC./ KAI WA'DIYA LEARNING ACADEMY-KWLA (PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA)
TITLE: Pre-K Teacher with Child Development Certificate and/or Early Childhood Degree (PreK 3 Classroom and PreK 4 Classroom)
LOCATION: Phenix City, Alabama
JOB GOAL: To serve as the lead teacher in a private preschool environment serving 8-10 students, preparing students for Kindergarten. Lead Teacher will facilitate school readiness academic skills, effective classroom management practices, knowledgeable of My Teaching Strategies Curriculum.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director and Assistant Director
SALARY: $15.00 per hour based on experience and education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Year-Round
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Child Development Certificate and/ or Early Childhood Degree
2. Official transcript verifying course work and/ or equivalent early childhood college credits and verification of Child Development Certificate
3. At least three or more years of experience in a Pre-K setting
4. Curriculum knowledge and proficieny
5. Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students
6. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
7. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with diverse groups of staff, parents and students. Demonstate a professional demeanor at all times.
8. Physically able, strength to endure, mental stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities in the classroom.
9. Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications with online curriculum platforms, daily communication to parents, using selected childcare management system and other online communication portals used at KWLA.
10. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames
11. Have effective classroom management practices
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrates support for KWLA, its purpose, vision and mission.
2. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks efficiently.
3. Maintains confidentiality of KWLA business, its staff, and its students.
4. Demonstrates and models regular and predictable attendance.
5. Demonstrates professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
6. Uses technology for communication or job-related tasks as required.
7. Pre-K lead teacher implements curriculum and programming specific to the needs of all students.
8. Pre-K lead teacher documents daily learning objectives for all students in KWLA online lesson plan platform.
9. Pre-K lead teacher must maintain student attendance, and any other required forms requested by assistant director.
10. Pre-K lead teacher enters daily student data entry in classroom curriculum, classroom bulletin boards, change out instructional materials based on rotation schedule, prepare homework folders according to child's academic progress and/or development milestones.
11. Supervises students while maintaining a healthy positive learning environment.
12. Pre-K lead teacher is required to provide appropriate classroom safety procedures in accordance with state and local guidelines.
13. Pre-K Lead teacher participates in academy meetings, state meetings, and other activities that relate to professional development and effective school instruction.
14. Participates in the school improvement process, Alabama Quality rating process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans deemed neccessary in this position.
15. Demonstrates high expectations for self and for students, creating an environment that has goals that are both rigorous and achievable.
16. Demonstrates initiatives to improve job performance and in areas of responsibility.
17. Pre-K lead teacher possesses strong classroom management skills
18. Pre-K lead teacher creates a learning environment that is attractive, safe, and conducive for learning.
19. Supervises extra-curricular activities as assigned.
20. Works independently and follows directives of supervisors
21. Demonstrates the desire and emotional ability to work with Pre-K students' parents and guardians
22. Answers questions and responds to requests from parents and refers requests to the appropriate persons.
23. Performs duties and represents KWLA in a courteous, positive, and professional manner.
24. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely.
25. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
26. Properly cares for equipment and material resources in the classroom.
27. Reports absences take leave in accordance with KWLA board policy and procedures; prepares for substitute in accordance to board policy and school procedures.
28. Performs other duties deemed necessary as directed by Director, Assistant Director and the Pre-K Lead teacher.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
