Primary Function: The Campus Safety Liaison is a vital member of the school community who supports the educational process within the Muscogee County School District (MCSD) by implementing procedures to provide a safe and secure educational environment and preserving public order. Additionally, this role supports the smooth and efficient operation of the school’s administrative offices in collaboration with school staff.
This is a full-time position, eligible for benefits and overtime (over 40 hours per work week), with prior approval. This is a 186 days per year position. Typical working days are Monday – Friday; however, some weekends and holidays may be required. Work hours vary based on various factors:

High School Diploma/GED

Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License. (Must provide consent for MCSD to obtain a Motor Vehicle Driving Report.)

Meet and maintain acceptable level of physical and mental fitness to meet MCSD Police Department standards.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment, but may involve exposure to inclement weather.
5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: common office machines; and office methods and practices.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; utilizing specialized weapons detection equipment.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1.
Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met.
2.
Serves as the primary staff member responsible for operating and maintaining weapons detection equipment at the assigned school for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient processes for preventing unauthorized weapons on campus.
3.
Implements all applicable policies and procedures for weapons detection, visitor management, and staff check-in; monitors the campus and buildings for unauthorized individuals and verifies the presence of applicable visitor and/or employee identification for the purpose of ensuring only authorized individuals are on campus.
4.
Ensures weapons detection and visitor management systems are in proper working order and ready for use each day by following applicable protocols and collaborating with applicable school and district staff for the purpose of implementing weapons detection and visitor management procedures effectively.
5.
Supports the various functions and tasks of the school’s administrative offices for the purpose of smooth and efficient school operations.
6.
Maintains a high-level of attentiveness and vigilance while continuously monitoring the environment for the purpose of identifying and promptly responding, as appropriate, to potential safety concerns or incidents.
7.
Maintains an active presence and positive interactions with students, staff, and visitors for the purpose of promoting and supporting appropriate behavior and redirecting inappropriate behavior to meet the overall educational objectives.
8.
Communicates with appropriate team members about various alarms and alerts related to campus safety and responds to alarms and alerts in accordance with District protocols for the purpose of maintaining a safe and orderly educational environment.
9.
Connect with police officers, administrators, and school staff, for monitoring activity on and around campus helping with situational awareness for the purpose of maintaining a coordinated and effective campus security strategy.
10.
Assists the MCSD Police Department with operating weapons detection equipment at athletic, extra-curricular, and special events for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient processes for preventing unauthorized weapons at events.
11.
Follows, and as appropriate, administers and/or enforces safety procedures, protocols, laws (local, state, and federal), and Board policies for the purpose of maintaining compliance and best practices.
12.
Participates regularly in training and reviews current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job functions for the purpose of maintaining and increasing skills so work is performed at a high level of proficiency.
13.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
