Tallman Equipment is looking for a Social Media & Content Specialist to strengthen our social media presence through engaging content, strong visual design, industry storytelling and performance-driven strategy.
This role combines social media management, graphic design, short-form video, photography, writing and analytics. You will develop social-first content, create polished visual assets, manage day-to-day social activity, track key performance indicators and use performance insights to guide future content and platform strategy.
A major focus of this position will be creating short-form, social-first content that highlights the tools, people, knowledge and work that support the electric utility industry. The ideal candidate has a good eye for design, understands what makes an image or layout effective and can take an idea from concept through creation and publication.
You will also evaluate how content performs, use those insights to improve future work and continually refine the topics, formats and platform strategies that best connect with our audience.
We do not expect candidates to be equally experienced in every area of the role. Strong candidates may come from social media, graphic design, photography, video, communications or another creative background. We are looking for someone with a solid creative foundation, strong judgment and the ability to develop in areas where they have less experience.
About Tallman Equipment
Tallman Equipment has served the electric utility industry since 1952. We provide tools, equipment, testing, repair, training, and field expertise to the professionals who keep electrical systems operating safely and reliably.
Our strongest content comes from real people, real tools, real jobsites, and decades of industry knowledge. This position will help uncover those stories and turn them into useful, engaging content for people we serve.
What You’ll Do
Social Media Strategy and Management
- Develop and manage Tallman Equipment’s social media strategy across Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and other relevant platforms.
- Use audience research, competitor activity, platform trends, and performance benchmarks to identify opportunities and build a social strategy.
- Build and maintain a content calendar aligned with company priorities, campaigns, products, services, events, customer interests, and established content pillars.
- Create platform-specific content tailored to audience behavior and best practices.
- Schedule and publish content while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and brand quality.
- Monitor comments, messages, reviews, and other audience interactions, responding timely and appropriately.
- Experiment with testing new topics, formats, posting schedules, and distribution strategies.
Short-Form Content Creation
- Develop short-form video concepts for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social platforms.
- Adapt content so it feels native to each platform, audience and content format.
- Turn product demonstrations, employee knowledge, interviews, field activities, events, and everyday company moments into engaging social content.
- Write clear and concise social media copy such as scripts, hooks, captions, calls to action, and on-screen text.
- Capture and edit social-first content using mobile devices, lapel microphones, cameras, and appropriate editing tools as needed.
- Create content with clear, appropriate calls to action that support brand awareness, audience engagement, lead generation and other business goals.
- Repurpose successful ideas into multiple formats without making the content feel repetitive.
- Create supporting graphics and visual assets that can be used across other marketing avenues such as digital marketing and campaign promotions as needed.
This is primarily a social-first content role rather than a full-scale commercial photography or video production position. However, the successful candidate should have a strong photographic eye and be able to use composition, lighting, perspective and subject direction to create polished, professional visual content in real-world environments.
Graphic Design and Visual Brand Support
- Design original graphics and visual assets for social media campaigns, product promotions, events, recruitment, educational content and company announcements.
- Create platform-specific layouts for Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and other digital channels.
- Apply strong principles of typography, visual hierarchy, spacing, composition, color and imagery.
- Maintain Tallman Equipment’s visual identity and ensure creative work is consistent with established brand standards.
- Recognize when a layout is cluttered, difficult to read, visually inconsistent or lacking a clear focal point.
- Select, crop, retouch and prepare photography for social media and other marketing uses.
- Adapt creative assets for different platforms, dimensions and campaign needs without simply duplicating the same design.
- Develop reusable templates and design systems while keeping content fresh and avoiding a repetitive or formulaic appearance.
- Support the marketing team with graphics for email campaigns, website content, digital advertising, presentations, print materials and other marketing initiatives as needed.
- Organize working files and final creative assets so they can be easily located, reused and updated.
Analytics, KPI Tracking, and Reporting
- Establish, track, and report on meaningful social media KPIs.
- Analyze engagement, reach, video performance, audience growth, website traffic, leads, and campaign results.
- Compare performance across platforms to determine which topics and formats work best for each audience.
- Generate actionable insights based on tracked KPIs.
- Turn performance data into practical recommendations for future content and social strategy.
- Maintain organized records of campaigns, benchmarks, content tests, and results.
- Present monthly campaign outcomes and strategic recommendations to marketing leadership and other company stakeholders.
- Connect social media results to broader marketing and business objectives.
Collaboration
- Partner with the marketing team, sales leadership, and subject-matter experts to align social media activity with company goals.
- Identify and develop opportunities for employees, industry experts, and customers to share their knowledge on camera.
- Help participants feel prepared and comfortable during interviews and content capture.
- Attend company events, trade shows, demonstrations, training sessions, and occasional field activities to gather content.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Support additional marketing and communications projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience in social media management, content marketing, digital marketing, communications, or a related role.
- Experience creating content for a company, organization, or professional brand.
- Strong understanding of short-form social video and the factors that drive attention, retention, engagement, and action.
- Experience using social media analytics to evaluate performance and make content recommendations.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong graphic design and short-form video/photo-editing skills.
- Proficiency with at least one professional graphic design platform, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva or a comparable tool, along with experience using photo or video editing software.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and content requests.
- Strong attention to detail and a habit of reviewing work before publication.
- Ability to develop an idea, create the wording or scripts, capture the necessary content, and edit it into a finished social media asset.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, accept feedback, and continually improve.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn about electric utility tools, equipment, and the people who use them.
- Ability to work primarily on-site at our Columbus, Indiana headquarters.
- Availability for occasional travel to company locations, trade shows, customer events, and field activities.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in marketing, communications, digital media, graphic design, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience in social media management, content marketing, digital marketing, communications, or a related role.
- Experience working with a B2B, industrial, construction, manufacturing, utility, trades, or technical brand.
- Experience covering live events and creating real-time social content.
- Drone photography or videography experience or certification.
Equivalent professional, freelance, academic, and personal experience will be considered.

- Have strong storytelling instincts and know how to make technical subjects engaging.
