Columbus Area Children’s Museum proudly opened its doors in February 2024 as a central anchor of the Community Building. As a non-profit organization, our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all children that inspires them to explore, create, and learn through the power of play.
Position Summary
The Floor Staff Associate plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging experience for every guest who visits the museum. As the face of the museum, this position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining clean and interactive exhibit spaces, promoting memberships, supporting special events, and assisting with the daily operational needs of the museum. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and families, has a positive attitude, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Guest Experience
- Welcome guests with a friendly, enthusiastic, and professional attitude.
- Check in visitors, answer questions, and provide information about exhibits, memberships, programs, and events.
- Ensure every guest has a positive and memorable museum experience.
- Assist with admissions, gift shop purchases, and membership transactions.
Membership Sales & Guest Engagement
- Actively promote museum memberships by explaining benefits and encouraging visitors to join.
- Process new memberships and membership renewals accurately.
- Build relationships with guests to encourage repeat visits and community engagement.
Exhibit Maintenance & Cleaning
- Clean, sanitize, and reset exhibits throughout the day to ensure a safe and inviting environment.
- Inspect exhibits for cleanliness, organization, and functionality.
- Report maintenance concerns, damaged exhibits, or safety hazards promptly.
- Assist with opening and closing cleaning procedures.
Programs & Special Events
- Assist with birthday parties, educational programs, field trips, and special events.
- Help set up, monitor, and tear down event spaces.
- Provide excellent customer service to event participants and volunteers.
- Support staff with event logistics and guest flow.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with museum staff and volunteers.
- Maintain a positive, flexible attitude and be willing to assist wherever needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and training opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Experience working with children or families is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Friendly, energetic, and dependable.
- Comfortable using a point-of-sale system and basic computer programs.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, kneel, reach, and lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to move throughout exhibit spaces and assist with event setup and cleanup.
- Must be able to work in an active environment with children and families.
