Legal Assistant (Litigation & Energy)

Columbus, OH

Hybrid Schedule | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

*Must have Litigation experience to be considered*

Pay Range: $60,000–$72,000/yr.

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, education, and internal equity.

We are seeking a Legal Assistant to support our Litigation and Energy & Regulated Industries Groups.

General Description
Under general supervision and in accordance with Firm policies and procedures, this position provides high-level administrative support to attorneys and their clients, maintaining positive and professional communication across the board. The Legal Assistant ensures timely and accurate completion of work assigned by multiple attorneys, including litigation case management, regulatory filings, document preparation, electronic filing, calendar and deadline tracking, and overall practice support.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary
Background supporting Litigation and/or Energy Regulated Industries groups

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Strong typing, formatting, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail
Knowledge of litigation processes, including pleadings, discovery, trial preparation, and court procedures
Familiarity with regulatory filings and agency procedures (such as Public Utilities Commission, FERC, or state energy boards)
Exceptional organization, time management, and communication skills
Ability to manage calendars, deadlines, and multiple priorities effectively
Comfortable working independently while collaborating as part of a team
Flexible and responsive to time-sensitive demands; willingness to work beyond regular business hours when necessary
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with tools such as iManage, Aderant, Interaction, and PreBill Manager is a plus
Skilled in legal document preparation, transcription, and editing

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and edit legal documents, correspondence, reports, and internal forms accurately and efficiently
Draft, format, and modify pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, and regulatory filings based on attorney notes and instructions
Maintain case files, track litigation deadlines, and assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, witness lists, and binders
Support attorneys with regulatory compliance matters, including preparing filings for energy-related agencies and monitoring submission deadlines
Transcribe from dictation or handwritten material; draft and edit documents as needed
Maintain calendars, schedule meetings and appointments, and monitor filing deadlines
Handle phone calls and visitors professionally, gathering accurate information and directing inquiries appropriately
Coordinate travel arrangements and submit expense reports for assigned attorneys and team members
Assist with pre-bill review and edits to meet monthly billing deadlines
Perform or oversee administrative tasks such as e-filing, creating tables of authorities and contents, managing Excel and PowerPoint files, and document formatting
Assign or handle administrative tasks like scanning, copying, docketing, mail distribution, time entry, and file maintenance when needed
Support other attorneys and legal assistants during high-volume periods or team member absences
