Full Job Description

Position Overview

Verveba Telecom is seeking experienced Fiber Splicing & Testing Technicians to support a large-scale fiber deployment in New Albany, Ohio.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with single-fiber and high-count ribbon splicing, fiber preparation/cartridges, and basic fiber testing and troubleshooting.

Technicians will be responsible for performing high-quality fiber splicing, testing, documentation, and restoration activities while meeting project production and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Fiber Splicing

Perform single-fiber fusion splicing and high-count ribbon fiber splicing.
Operate Fujikura 90R / 90R16 or equivalent ribbon fusion splicing platforms.
Prepare, strip, clean, cleave, and splice fiber according to project specifications.
Properly organize and route fibers within splice trays, closures, cartridges, and splice modules.
Perform ribbon fiber handling, mass fusion splicing, and fiber identification.
Maintain clean and organized splice work areas.
Troubleshoot poor splice loss, fiber breaks, cleave issues, and equipment-related problems.
Perform re-splicing when required to meet project loss specifications.

Fiber Testing & Verification

Perform basic fiber testing and troubleshooting using:

VFL (Visual Fault Locator)
Optical Power Meter / Light Source
OLTS (Optical Loss Test Set)
OTDR testing experience is highly preferred.
Verify continuity, polarity, insertion loss, and link performance.
Identify and troubleshoot excessive loss, breaks, bends, contamination, and other fiber defects.
Record and maintain accurate test results and documentation.

Quality & Documentation

Follow customer, project, and industry fiber-splicing standards.
Maintain accurate splice records, test results, fiber assignments, and as-built documentation.
Ensure all splices meet specified loss requirements.
Complete daily production reports and quality documentation.
Support final acceptance testing and project closeout activities.

Production & Field Operations

Meet daily production targets while maintaining quality standards.
Work effectively as part of a splicing/testing crew under the direction of a Lead Splicer or Project Supervisor.
Support day, night, weekend, and extended shifts as project requirements dictate.
Follow all site safety, PPE, housekeeping, and customer requirements.
Travel between project work areas as required.

Required Qualifications

2+ years of hands-on fiber splicing experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience with fusion splicing and ribbon splicing.
Experience with high-count ribbon fiber is strongly preferred.
Experience working with splice trays, closures, cartridges, and fiber management systems.
Working knowledge of VFL, optical power meter/light source, and OLTS.
Ability to read fiber counts, splice diagrams, fiber assignments, and work packages.
Ability to troubleshoot splice loss and fiber continuity issues.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Ability to work safely and productively in a fast-paced deployment environment.
Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends when required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Fujikura 90R / 90R16 or similar ribbon splicing platforms.
High-count ribbon fiber experience.
OTDR testing experience.
Experience supporting data center, backbone, long-haul, or hyperscale fiber deployments.
Experience with fiber characterization and acceptance testing.
Previous experience working on large-scale fiber construction projects.

Performance Expectations

Technicians are expected to maintain a strong balance between production, quality, safety, and documentation. Productivity targets will be established based on project scope, fiber count, splice configuration, site conditions, and customer requirements.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work on feet for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move equipment and materials as required.
Ability to work in data center, construction, and outdoor environments.
Ability to perform detailed fiber preparation and splicing work requiring strong hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work flexible schedules based on project requirements.

Core Skills

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
