Full Job Description

Position Summary:
The Childhood League Center is currently looking for nurse (Monday – Thursday, 8am-4p, 32 hours per week). The school nurse assesses and provides nursing and health-related services to children within program; and promotes the health and wellness of children and their families, and Center staff. This includes management of health care and monitoring health/illness of children in the program; review and implementation of health standards and education for staff and families; and integration of health and wellness into school programs including Early Intervention and Preschool.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Assess health and nutritional status of children; manage and monitor illness /injury; develop and implement health care plans for identified children; provide preventive well care including developmental health screenings for all students.

Maintain and assess health records; interpret medical information/diagnosis/medical care requirements for staff and families; manage medications; and ensure compliance with Ohio Department of Health standards. Must be or become familiar with all current Step Up to Quality and DCY licensing rules and regulations.

Provide oversight of nutritional components of the food program as related to overall health of children in program including monitoring and modifications based on individual children’s allergies and specific health care needs; provide training and support to chef and classroom staff about health needs of population served. Develop and provide health and wellness education related to children’s medical needs for families, staff and children; consult with and counsel families relative to children’s medical needs to promote health within the home and school environments; provide/arrange training for staff including children’s individual care plan management, CPR, communicable disease recognition, child abuse prevention, first aid and other related or required trainings.

Serve as a member of the early intervention team and preschool team to ensure health and wellness is integrated within classroom curriculum. Will also serve on the family services team, and as a member of the Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan (TECIP).

Serve as a liaison between health care providers and other community health organizations to ensure children have integrated health care and Center health services meet high standards.

Ensure Center is current and informed about health issues in the community; make recommendations and provide training as needed.

Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education and Required Qualifications:
Registered Nurse licensure (RN) or LPN with Ohio Board of Nursing and School Nurse or Pediatric Certification/License with the State of Ohio Department of Education required.
Five (5) years nursing experience with direct child assessment /intervention and family education experience required.
Knowledge of child development and developmental disabilities required.
Knowledge of school health programs, including vision, hearing screening and immunization requirements; ability to assess health status of children and interpret results required.
Experience working in an interdisciplinary setting required.
