Under general supervision is responsible for the maintenance, replacement , and repair of building plumbing and piping equipment and related systems; performs related duties as required.
Provisional Appointment
***Currently there is not an active tested eligible list for this classification, therefore, this position will be filled on a PROVISIONAL basis. At such time an examination is given for this position, within two years of hire, the preferred candidate serving in the position provisionally will be required to take the examination. The preferred candidate at that time must pass the exam to continue employment in this position. ***
Examples of Work:
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and/or maintains all types of plumbing fixtures and devices associated with plumbing systems.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and/or maintains backflow devices, including for fire systems.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and/or maintains centrifugal water pumps and related parts.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces and/or maintains domestic water heaters.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and/or maintains plumbing devices associated with steam or hot water boilers and heating systems (e.g. pumps, coils, pipes).
- Performs drain opening/cleaning duties.
- Participates in large scale plumbing projects such as bathroom remodeling, valve replacements, hot water system replacements, or sewage pump replacements in lift stations.
- Operates a motor vehicle to reach various work sites.
- Reads blueprints and schematic diagrams to locate/understand various systems.
- Operates a computer or mobile device to store, retrieve, and/or modify information, records, and reports.
- Communicates (verbally and written) establishing effective working relationships with school personnel and others.
Maintains appropriate written records of work assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Three (3) years of commercial plumbing experience. Substitution(s): Possession of a certificate of completion of apprenticeship in the plumbing trade issued by the U.S. Department of Labor or the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Possession of a State of Ohio Backflow Tester Certificate by the end of the probationary period.
Some positions may require possession of a State of Ohio Automatic Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems Certificate.
