Job Overview

The Venue Chef is the on-site culinary leader responsible for executing events with precision, consistency, and excellence. This role leads Back of House operations during events, ensuring all food is prepared, fired, and presented according to Gourmet Fresh standards.

Working in partnership with the Executive Chef, the Venue Chef translates culinary direction into seamless event execution. This role is critical in delivering exceptional guest experiences, maintaining service timing, and leading BOH teams to perform at a high level in fast-paced event environments.

Gourmet Fresh creates award-winning food for BTTS Events venues throughout Central Ohio, including WatersEdge – Lakeview (Hilliard), Brookshire (Lewis Center), The Estate at New Albany, Ellis (Italian Village), The Cove at WatersEdge (Hilliard), Vue Columbus (Downtown), Darby House (Galloway) and Meadow and Vine (Marengo).

Responsibilities for Candidate

Leadership & Event Execution

Lead and direct BOH team members during events ranging from 50–350 guests.
Own the execution of food service including plated, buffet, and family-style events.
Fire food with precision, ensuring proper timing, quality, and consistency.
Oversee dish-up, plating, and service flow to meet established event timelines (typically concluding dinner service by 8:00 PM).
Set the tone for urgency, teamwork, and professionalism in a high-energy environment.

Service Coordination & Communication

Partner closely with the Event Captain to ensure seamless front and back of house coordination.
Communicate clearly and proactively throughout the event to adjust timing and execution as needed.
Support a cohesive guest experience by aligning culinary execution with overall event flow.

Culinary Standards & Quality Control

Execute menus according to Gourmet Fresh recipes, standards, and presentation expectations.
Ensure consistency in portioning, plating, and product quality across all events.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficiency in all kitchen and service areas.
Uphold food safety and sanitation standards at all times.

Production Support (Full-Time Opportunity)

Assist with weekday prep and production when full-time hours are desired.
Contribute to production efficiency, organization, and readiness for upcoming events.
Support the broader BOH team in maintaining consistent execution standards across all venues.

Requirements for Candidate

2–4 years of culinary experience in catering, events, or high-volume hospitality.
Strong ability to execute under pressure in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
Solid understanding of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations.
Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
Ability to lift 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends based on event needs.
