Job Description
Join our team and make a difference every day! We are seeking a dedicated, self-motivated Dietary Coordinator to oversee and implement the food service program at our residential treatment facility serving youth.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, creating organization, and making a direct impact on the lives of young people. The Dietary Coordinator is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals while maintaining kitchen operations, inventory, food safety standards, and regulatory compliance. This individual will also work directly with residents to teach cooking and life skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare balanced, nutritious meals, including accommodations for special dietary needs
- Prepare and serve meals for residents and staff
- Work directly with youth residents in meal preparation, cooking activities, and life-skills development
- Maintain safe, sanitary, and organized kitchen, dining, and food storage areas
- Wash dishes and ensure all kitchen equipment and workspaces remain clean and compliant with health and safety standards
- Monitor food inventory, order supplies, and maintain accurate records
- Participate in government food programs and maintain regulatory compliance
- Complete required documentation regarding resident interactions and food service activities
- Promote a structured, efficient, and positive kitchen environment
- Collaborate with residential staff to support meal service and resident engagement
Position Expectations
This is a hands-on, independent role responsible for managing all aspects of the facility's food service operation. The Dietary Coordinator serves as the primary kitchen staff member and should be comfortable performing all daily kitchen functions, including:
- Preparing and serving meals for up to approximately 50 residents and staff members
- Food preparation and meal service
- Dishwashing and kitchen cleaning
- Inventory management and food ordering
- Kitchen organization and sanitation
- Managing multiple responsibilities throughout the day with minimal supervision
Successful candidates will be comfortable working independently while maintaining a high standard of quality, cleanliness, and efficiency.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- ServSafe Certification required
- Experience in food service, dietary services, commercial kitchens, school cafeterias, healthcare, residential treatment, corrections, or similar environments preferred
- Knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, food safety, and kitchen operations
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable supervising, mentoring, and teaching youth in a kitchen setting
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical demands of food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, and meal service
- Positive attitude and flexibility in a dynamic residential treatment environment
- Willingness to complete an on-site cooking demonstration during the interview process
