Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Corrections Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional facility. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical expertise, including experience with acute and chronic care, mental health, and specialized procedures. As a Corrections Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care, managing complex medical conditions, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and regulations in a secure environment. Your role will be vital in promoting health and safety among incarcerated individuals while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Duties

Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews to determine immediate and long-term health needs.
Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform suturing with aseptic technique while adhering to HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards.
Manage acute pain cases, triage emergencies, and respond promptly to urgent medical situations utilizing critical care protocols and emergency response procedures.
Perform diagnostic evaluations such as specimen collection, laboratory testing, and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures including CT scans or sonography as needed.
Provide specialized care for individuals with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, or mental health disorders; coordinate case management and discharge planning.
Maintain sterile processing standards for wound care, ostomy care, catheterization, ventilator management, and tube feeding; ensure infection control practices are followed rigorously.
Utilize electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems) like Cerner or Athenahealth to document patient care accurately; ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations including NCQA standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans; work closely with mental health professionals for behavioral health and dementia or Alzheimer's care cases.

Experience

Proven nursing experience in correctional facilities or similar secure environments is highly preferred.
Extensive clinical background in acute care settings such as ICU, emergency room, trauma centers (Level I & II Trauma Center experience), or hospital medicine.
Demonstrated expertise in managing complex medical procedures including cardiac catheterization, dialysis support, ostomy care, or neonatal resuscitation procedures.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; proficiency in ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) and CPT coding for accurate documentation.
Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs; knowledge of trauma medicine and infectious disease care is advantageous.
Strong foundation in nursing fundamentals such as physical examinations, medication administration, airway management, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and basic life support certification.
Prior experience in long-term care settings like nursing homes or assisted living facilities is beneficial; familiarity with geriatrics and memory care enhances your ability to serve this population effectively.
