Job Summary:
Facilitate engaging in-school, afterschool, and summer programming that empowers students through career exploration, academic support, and social-emotional growth. Represent IgniteU at program sites by collaborating with school teams, providing academic interventions, and supporting classroom learning. Build meaningful relationships with students to create a consistent and enriching experience during the school year and summer months.
Responsibilities:
Academic Mentors are responsible for delivering in-school and out-of-school programming that promotes career exploration, academic achievement, and social-emotional development. Key responsibilities include:
- Representing IgniteU at assigned program sites, including attending educational team meetings, providing tutoring and academic interventions, and offering classroom support as needed.
- Facilitating IgniteU after-school programming, including:
- Supervising students;
- Leading career exploration, academic, social, and emotional enrichment activities (including physical activity and emotional regulation);
- Supporting homework help and the meal program as assigned.
- Assisting in the design of program modules under the direction of the YFE Director, Camp Mary Orton-Youth Camps Supervisor, and Youth Programs Coordinator. Assignments may vary based on summer placement (e.g., R2E or Camp Mary Orton).
- Leading assigned program modules, field trips, family events, parent meetings, and special events.
- Using data to inform instruction and evaluate participant development, including tracking attendance, monitoring academic progress, and administering assessments.
- Providing direct supervision during summer programming, including:
- Leading assigned camper groups or work readiness groups.
- Creating and implementing age-appropriate, modules in nature education, academic enrichment, career exploration, work readiness, social-emotional learning, and arts and crafts;
- Support meal service, swimming, adventure elements, field games, field trips, and special events.
- Documenting program activities, attendance, progress, and assessments; completing reports as required.
- Provide supervision and guidance to interns, work study students, volunteers, and contract employees as directed.
- Accompany participants in agency vehicles to remote program sites or on field trips.
- Recruit and enroll participants for program and/or agency/community events as needed.
- Participate in professional development and training as required.
- Be a registered professional with OCCRRA Ohio Professional Registry.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience facilitating group work with school-age youth in out of school time settings or non-traditional educational environments.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, Communicable Diseases, Recognizing Child Abuse or ability to complete these trainings within 90 days.
- Requires the ability to work independently and sometimes remotely.
- Requires intermediate computer skills and experience using office equipment.
- The ability to work non-traditional hours. Some evenings and weekends are required.
- Must be able to pass a criminal and child abuse background check.

Work Schedule:
September-May: Monday-Thursday 10AM-6PM, Friday 9AM-5PM
June-August: Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM

- Ability to move quickly in response to student needs or emergencies.
- Visual and auditory acuity to monitor student behavior, safety, and engagement in various program activities.
- Ability to facilitate activities in a variety of environments, including classrooms, gymnasiums, pools, and outdoor settings.
- Tolerance for working in varying conditions, including outdoor heat, humidity, and noise levels during field trips, camps, and recreational activities.
- Sufficient physical stamina and dexterity to assist with student accommodations and provide emotional regulation support as needed.
