POSITION OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Assumes primary authority and accountability for the district’s academic support services in support of student outcomes. Drives the educational performance of the district, providing leadership, vision and development initiatives. Directly supervises a team that includes curriculum development and implementation, career technical education and workforce development, professional development, special education, early childhood education, English learner services, gifted and talented, learning technology, state and federal programs, grants, higher education partnerships. Works in collaboration with colleagues to implement the district’s vision, mission and strategic plan to ensure that each student is highly educated, prepared for leadership and service, and empowered for success as a citizen in a global community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The list below is intended to describe the essential duties performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities and/or required duties. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Directs operations of all areas assigned including preparation of budgets, development of programs, and all other matters that relate to operating efficiency and effectiveness including hiring, training, counseling, evaluating staff performance, and when necessary, disciplining staff.
- Provides strategic leadership, in partnership with the Superintendent/CEO and Cabinet to create the vision of the district, develop the strategic plan to achieve the vision, and drive the execution of Board Goals and Guardrails.
- Ensures compliance of the district’ academic service department with district Goals, Guardrails and strategic plan, administrative procedures, Board of Education (BOE) policy, state and federal laws, and directives of the Superintendent/CEO; initiates corrective action as necessary.
- Provides regular briefings to the Superintendent/CEO, Cabinet and BOE on critical academic issues.
- Attends all BOE meetings.
- Supports the BOE student outcomes focused governance model as well as the work of BOE committees; performs related tasks.
- Provides educational and managerial leadership that builds and supports a high-performance team that inspires, integrates and aligns the academic work for the district.
- Directs the development, implementation, and monitors a comprehensive and aligned curriculum management system based on federal and state mandates and district policy that will enable all students, grades PreK-12, to meet or exceed state and district performance measures.
- Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s continuous improvement plan and supports systems to ensure each school aligns with the District Improvement Plan process.
- Drives the design delivery, monitoring, and evaluating of district-wide intervention systems, including compensatory programs, to allow as many students as possible to meet and/or exceed the standards and reduce and close the gap in achievement between identified student populations and groups.
- Collaborates on the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a comprehensive professional development model that focuses on the needs of learners, teachers, and administrators with congruence to system goals and priorities.
- Assists in the development, implementation and continuous refinement of a feedback assessment system to provide clear and useful data to drive decision-making process for student learning, staff development, and improvement of instruction.
- Engages the community, parents, and businesses in active partnerships that support and enhance the academic goals of the district.
- Supports administrative or educational studies to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and learning models, analyzes data and provides recommendations to the Superintendent /CEO and/or the BOE.
- Ensures the assignment, evaluation, and training of staff for the adequate delivery of curriculum and instruction.
- Creates a culture of collaboration, service and equitable supports for schools throughout the district and leads the collaboration with departments across the district to implement operational policies and business processes that enable schools to maintain environments that support and maximize student achievement and comply with all Federal and state regulations and BOE policies.
- Networks with other similar school districts to share best practices and explore opportunities to proactively explore new programs/services to meet the needs of students.
Maintains current knowledge of best practices, trends, and new developments in academic programs and educational support services, particularly in urban settings.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION LEVEL:
Master’s degree in Education, Public Administration or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Ten (10) or more years of progressively more responsible educational administrative experience including working with diverse and economically disadvantaged populations.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Valid Ohio Department of Education Administrator License or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
General knowledge of urban educational challenges as well as accrediting and regulatory standards and school funding related to assigned functions. The incumbent is also required to have a strong knowledge of curriculum design, instructional practices, school operations and management, and leadership development.
Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to lead the design, implementation and management of a large-scale system.
- Analytical ability to develop the vision and direction of the district’s educational programs and services consistent with the mission statement and instructional goals of the district as well as related Federal and state mandates.
Demonstrated ability to effectively serve as a leader and member of a team.
