About RITA: Our Mission at RITA is to provide Ohio cities and villages with a high quality, cost effective municipal tax collection service. We currently serve more than 400 cities and villages across the State of Ohio, collecting and distributing more than $2.5B of municipal income tax revenue annually, at an average cost in 2025 of just over one cent of every dollar collected. About the Role:
Under direction of the Customer Service Manager, the Tax Supervisor serves as a pivotal leadership role that bridges the gap between management, operational output and individual staff development. The purpose of this position is to provide supervisory support by delegating tasks effectively and building team trust. This role upholds high standards of conduct and empowers individuals to reach their full potential while ensuring all department goals are met. In addition, to supporting the business units by performing related tax department work as needed, this position acts as the point person for the Worthington Satellite Office.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Serves as on-sight Supervisor for employees of the Worthington office. Assigns, reviews and coordinates work activities, provides work instruction and training assistance, and responds to employee issues and concerns.
2. Collaborates with both Individual Tax Managers and other Tax Supervisors to prioritize assignments and assign staff coverage to achieve established department goals. Coordinates staffing to provide optimum efficiency in a fast-paced environment for customer service and walk in taxpayer assistance. Ensures all aspects of work related to customer service and billing schedules are conducted in an efficient and timely manner.
3. Maintains work standards. Provides feedback to ensure high quality is met and job knowledge is continuously attained.
4. Identifies strengths and weaknesses of the team; provides direction and guidance to staff in achieving their developmental goals while fostering an inclusive environment. Provides support and assistance to direct reports.
5. Works with Tax Managers regarding staff metrics, statistics, and quality reports on performance issues and recognition.
6. Works with Tax Managers to determine if additional training or disciplinary intervention is necessary, collaborating with QA and Training personnel as needed.
7. Assists with preparation and administration of annual performance reviews.
8. Fosters a culture of accountability, consistent with the Agency’s mission.
9. Fields and de-escalates taxpayer and preparer calls.
10. Represents the Agency by responding to questions and concerns from taxpayers, tax preparers and member municipalities.
11. Reviews and processes tax returns in the RITA income tax system to post to taxpayer accounts. Ensures required information and supporting documentation have been provided.
12. Provides taxpayer assistance when necessary. Assists by answering questions, resolving discrepancies, and making corrections concerning income tax statements or general account information. Verifies returns for accuracy and conducts verbal or written correspondence to inform taxpayers of missing tax documents, changes in tax liabilities and requested account information. Completes income tax returns for taxpayers who have not filed returns by reviewing information discovered or has been provided by taxpayers and prepares income tax returns.
13. Reviews abatement requests for penalty and interest.
14. Reviews individual refunds for accuracy prior to approval. Assigns approvals and monitors refund process to minimize interest payments. Serves as primary approver of all individual level 2 refunds Coordinates with Member Services to notify Tax Administrators of refunds that may have significant impact. Collaborates with other Tax Supervisors to ensure refunds are being reviewed and approved in a timely manner. Responsible for approving check run with outside vendor and correcting invalid addresses.
15. Performs annual reconciliation of 1099-Gs issued to individual taxpayers to ensure data sent to the IRS is accurate. Coordinates with finance regarding 1099-Int forms for taxpayers receiving Interest refunds over $600.00.
16. Serves as primary point of contact for Business department regarding distribution issues related to individual tax filings to JEDD/JEDZ done in error. Receives general inquiries from business department related to individual accounts and makes needed corrections or assigns work to individual auditors to resolve issues.
17. Reviews and evaluates procedures and processes and makes changes as required. Creates new procedures and/or forms to fulfill assessed needs and modify current procedures and/or forms to enhance their function.
18. Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas. Keeps abreast of changes in tax laws. Reads and interprets professional literature. Presents at and/or attends training programs, workshops and seminars as appropriate.
19. Participates in the hiring and interview process to identify the best candidates.
20. Works with Home Office Maintenance personnel regarding maintenance, updates and repair issues for the Worthington office facility.
21. Performs other related work as assigned.

Physical Requirements: The individual assigned to this position must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, which include, but are not limited to the following:

able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
About You: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or closely related field; supplemented by minimum five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes auditing of municipal income tax returns; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
