Full Job Description

Office Coordinator – American Sign Language (ASL) Required-Interpreter

Columbus Colony Housing

United Church Homes is seeking a reliable and organized Office Coordinator with working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) to support daily operations at our housing community. This role works closely with the Housing Manager to help manage administrative tasks, support residents, and ensure clear communication with Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents.

This is a first shift role. No Weekend or Holidays

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with administrative office experience and ASL skills who enjoys working with people and making a positive impact in a residential community.

This position operates within the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Key Responsibilities

Resident Communication & Support

Communicate with residents and applicants using American Sign Language (ASL) when needed to ensure accessible communication.
Provide excellent customer service to residents, guests, and potential new residents.
Maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and staff.
Help plan monthly resident activities, newsletters, and community calendars.

Administrative & Office Coordination

Manage and update the housing applicant waiting list.
Coordinate move-ins and move-outs, including documentation and notifications.
Maintain accurate resident files and office records.
Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and assist visitors.
Keep the management office organized and running efficiently.

Compliance & Reporting (HUD Housing)

Coordinate annual resident recertification for income and eligibility verification.
Maintain Enterprise Income Verification (EIV) documentation.
Prepare and submit reports required by HUD and United Church Homes.
Assist the Housing Manager in maintaining 95–100% occupancy.

Financial & Operational Support

Collect rent payments and prepare daily bank deposits.
Process invoices and maintain payment records.
Assist with preparation of the annual operating budget.
Coordinate documentation for Special Claims and Reserve for Replacement requests.

Education

ASL fluency is required. Degree preferred.

Required Skills

Working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records

Computer Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Comfortable using databases and office management software

Additional Requirements

Valid driver’s license
Ability to communicate effectively with Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents
Strong customer service mindset
Ability to follow HUD housing regulations and Fair Housing guidelines

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
