Full Job Description

The Division of Liquor Control supports Ohio’s economy by providing funding for job creation and business development through the proceeds from Ohio’s liquor industry. The division ensures Ohioans have access to the products they want by overseeing the manufacture, distribution and sale of all alcoholic beverages, selling spirituous liquor through contract liquor agencies and registering products for sale. The division promotes the responsible consumption of alcohol by educating the public, and ensuring that businesses are informed and trained on their responsibilities not to sell to underage or intoxicated individuals.

What You'll Do:

Researches & drafts legal opinions and orders
Provides legal counsel & advice to appointing authority on policy development & implementation relating to legal functions
Presides over administrative hearings, performing judicial functions & rendering decisions
Responds to legal inquiries from the public, permit holders, and legislative officials
Participates in meetings, conferences, and panel discussions, including conducting presentations
Analyzes, monitors, and drafts legislation and rules

Qualifications

Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 12 mos. exp. as licensed attorney; 6 mos. exp. in employee training & development.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check as well as other investigative reviews. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana. Also, an applicant with a positive test will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year.
